From The Desk of Msgr. Matthew Mitas: SEPTEMBER IS THE MONTH OF THE SEVEN SORROWS OF OUR LADY!
NEW CHOIR DIRECTOR
Along with our new archbishop, we now have a new choir director, replacing Pat Buchanan, who moved
out of the parish. He is Chris Belcher, and has already been serving with our music ministries for many years,
at both the 5:00PM Saturday Mass and the 9:30 Sunday Mass. We are very pleased that he has accepted this
role, for not only does he provide needed continuity, but he’s a very fine musician, to boot! God bless him
and all our singers and musicians!
CATECHISM CLASS
My catechism class resumes this Tuesday, Sept. 1, in church, after the 7:00PM Devotions. It will be our
first class since the spring (we always take the summer off) and will continue our usual course of having class
on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. All, of course, are welcome. It will be live-streamed (just like
our Masses), and the folks at home will have a number to call with questions.
THE MASS AT PIPER’S CHAPEL ON THE FEAST OF ST. LOUIS…
….has been re-scheduled for Monday, September 14 (the great feast of the Triumph of the Holy Cross).
The procedure will be the same as what would have been on the feast of St. Louis: first, sign up on the sheet
in the lunchroom after Mass this Sunday, second, show up here on the parish grounds at 5:00 on the 14th,
third, carpool to Piper’s, fourth, enjoy a fine meal and sociability at the Madison Café in Cottleville after Mass,
and fifth, come home, spiritually, corporeally and socially well fed!
TENTATIVE BARBECUE
Our Men’s Club is tentatively planning a “Back-in-Business” Barbecue for Saturday, September 26. The
plan is to serve both those who wish to dine in, but also to have carry-outs for those inclined in that direction.
Stay tuned…
QUIZ-A-CATHOLIC
With the installation of our new archbishop, Abp. Mitchell Rozanski, I decided to make this quiz on
the bishops and archbishops of St. Louis, past and present. See how much you know:
1. Where is Abp. Rozanski from?
2. How old is Abp. Rozanski?
3. How many of our bishops/archbishops were foreign-born?
4. Who was our longest-serving bishop?
5. Who was our shortest-serving bishop?
6. How many of our bishops served here as cardinals?
7. Did any of our bishops become cardinals after they left St. Louis?
8. Are any of our former archbishops still alive?
9. Did we ever have a bishop who wasn’t an archbishop?
10. Name all eleven bishops/archbishops of St. Louis, where they’re from and where they’re buried.
ANSWERS: 1. Baltimore, by way of Springfield, MA 2. He just turned 62 (Aug. 6) 3. Three: Kenrick and Glennon (Ireland), and Rosati (Italy) 4. Kenrick (51.5 years) 5. Burke (4.5 years) 6.
