Perseverance in Prayer
I have always found this passage in Scripture challenging be-cause Jesus does not seem just or kind to this woman who has such great faith in His power as God. However, I think that His purpose in acting and speaking the way He did was to show the woman how necessary it is to remain persistent and dedicated in prayer. He shows us the truth that our prayers often seem ignored or neglected. The truth is that God rewards us when we continue to ask for what we need in prayer. When we most want to give up on prayer and neglect our spiritual life, we must find the energy and strength to re-main steadfast in it. archstl.org/dynamic
Word of Life
“Abortion affects countless marriages more than many people rec-
ognize. But there is no doubt that God will bring great healing to
those who trust in his infinite mercy. If a past abortion can be
acknowledged and addressed, a married couple can make great
strides in experiencing even more fully God’s design that ‘the two
shall become one’ (Mt 19:5).”

easy to do and your family will be blessed by praying together or
individually. A sign up sheet is in the back of church.
We need more families to sign up Please. 1st time is always a
learning experience and it is a commitment, but worth the bless-
ings, right?

Calendar
-August 16th, St. James Confirmation, 1pm . Invitation only.
-August 24th, First day Kingston & Potosi R3 School, “tentatively” .
-September 9th, St. James PSR will begin. More to come on this. Pray for our Priests
Try to think of a noble and heroic profession, a profession of service
and self-sacrifice. Now think of a profession where someone is on
call seven days a week, every day of the year, even when taking a
break.
Your parish priest is a spiritual physician and a heavenly warrior. He
may not have baptized 300,000 souls like St. Peter Claver nor ex-
changed his life for someone else's life in a concentration camp like
St. Maximilian Kolbe, but giving his life to God for the Church and
for you deserves admiration and recognition. Often there are times
when he may not realize how a single absolution, one anointing of
the sick, one simple heart-touching homily, or even just a single
word has profoundly changed a person's life for all eternity.
Please pray that through the intercession of St. John Vianney the
Holy Spirit will shower His graces on our priests, giving them wis-
dom, guidance, encouragement and perseverance so they may live
out their priesthood with faith, hope, and joy. And the next time you
see your parish priest, tell him you appreciate his vocation and say
"Thank you."
“If I were to meet a priest and an angel, I should salute the priest
before I saluted the angel. The latter is the friend of God but the
priest holds His place." ~ St. John Vianney (Aug. 4th, Feast Day)
Attention: When attending Mass, masks are still required when
entering and exiting church and when going up to receive commun-
ion. Please use hand sanitizer when entering & exiting. If you don’t
feel well, have any underlying health issues, or elderly; it is recom-
mended that you go to a week day Mass or stay home.

St. Maximilian Kolbe (Feast day, Aug 14th)
St. Maximilian Kolbe was born as Raymund Kolbe
on January 8, 1894, in the Kingdom of Poland, part
of the Russian Empire. He was a Polish Conventual
Franciscan friar and a martyr in the German death
Camp of Auschwitz during World War II.
St. Maximilian Kolbe was very active in promoting
the Immaculate Virgin Mary and is known as the
Apostle of Consecration to Mary. Much of his life
was strongly influenced by a vision he had of the
Virgin Mary when he was 12.
"That night I asked the Mother of God what was to become of me.
Then she came to me holding two crowns, one white, the other red.
She asked me if I was willing to accept either of these crowns. The
white one meant that I should persevere in purity, and the red that I
should become a martyr. I said that I would accept them both."

In our prayers, let us remember our youth being confirmed Sunday, Au-
gust 16th. (invitation only). Let us pray that they continue to grow strong
in their Faith, that the Holy spirit
will continue to guide them always
and that they will have ears to hear
God speaking to them.

Come Holy Spirit
Breathe in me O Holy Spirit,
That my thoughts may all be holy,
Act in me, O Holy Spirit,
That my work, too , may be holy
Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit,
That I love but what is holy,
Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit,
To defend all that is holy.
Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit,
That I always may be holy.
St. Augustine
