Dear Parents/Carers and Members of St Joseph's Community,
Friday 4 December is the last day of the school year for 2015 and school will conclude for the children at 12 noon. Enrolments for 2016 are once again allowing us to continue with 6 classes. To ensure this, we need to confirm our 2016 enrolments. If you have children, other than in Year 6, leaving St Joseph’s could I please ask families to let me know directly and immediately. As you can appreciate, accurate information is very important.
Schools everywhere are blessed with the most extraordinary people. These people work hard each and every day and get very little recognition for all the things they do that make the school run as smoothly as it can. They turn up each day, full of enthusiasm for the tasks ahead and full of love for the children in their care. These people can make the littlest thing appear magical to a child. It could be a word of praise, or a comment on a worksheet. It could be a joke shared and a hug when comfort is needed.
The people on our staff at St Joseph’s are certainly extraordinary people. Everyone does that little bit extra to help out both students and their colleagues. So it is difficult to say farewell to people who have been on the journey with us at St Joseph’s.
MRS SHERYL OGDEN - SCHOOL OFFICER
Sheryl has been a School Officer at St Joseph’s for the past 22 years. She has worked across the school in various capacities, including driving the school buses. Sheryl also played a major role in starting our ‘Girls Club’ during Tuesday lunches. We will miss all the little things Sheryl does that help the children’s day run smoothly. We wish Sheryl all the best as she moves to another phase of her life.
MRS DEBBIE BARRY Mrs Debbie Barry will be leaving St Joseph’s school community next year. Debbie has been successful in obtaining a transfer to St Mary’s, Kingaroy. Debbie has been a valued member of our teaching team for the past 8 years. Her commitment to teaching and her love for children’s learning is to be commended and we will miss her knowledge, wisdom and friendship. We wish Debbie the very best in the next phase of her teaching career.
MISS AMELIA HALL
Thank you Miss Hall for being a supportive, caring teacher and colleague. The students at St Joseph’s have certainly appreciated your gentleness and the bonds you have formed with every child at St Joseph’s. Your happy and hardworking attitude will be remembered at St Joseph’s. We wish Miss Hall all the best as she returns to Brisbane to teach at St Francis Xavier Primary School, Goodna.
Whilst we will miss these staff members, we wish them well in the next phase of their lives. In preparation for next year, I am still in the process of interviewing for available posi-tions. I am hoping to let parents and carers know the teaching staff for 2016 by early next week. As Principal, I am very excited and looking forward to continuing on the great work happening at this school in 2016.
Have a great fortnight everyone,

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
WORLD KINDNESS DAY
International Council of the World Kindness Movement to bring nations together and influence world leaders that
a kinder world can be realised in our lifetime. This organization believes in:
respect rather than intolerance; inclusion rather than exclusion; hospitality rather than hostility; gratitude rather than attitude.
Thank you to Year 2 who celebrated World Kindness Day through a beautiful assembly prayer. Year 2 reminded us
that each one of us can show small acts of kindness to those around us, helping to make the broader community
more focused on compassion and care beyond ourselves. They each gave wonderful examples of how we can
show kindness to others in our everyday actions. What a beautiful message and reminder for us all, especially in
these turbulent times for nations across the globe. Kindness starts with the individual and altogether the Kindness
Movement rallies all sectors of the community to work together to bring about a kinder world.
WHITE RIBBON DAY
Wednesday 25th November is White Ribbon Day, Australia's ‘campaign to prevent men's violence against women’.
Already a number of St Joseph’s students have been wearing their white ribbon to show support of this important
day of raising awareness.
For the following information and more, about White Ribbon Day, go to: http://www.whiteribbon.org.au/
White Ribbon is Australia’s only national, male led Campaign to end men’s violence against women.
God Bless,

PREP ORIENTATION THANKS
Last week saw the children who are enrolled for Prep next year spend the morning in our Prep environment. Our orientation morning was once again full of energy, smiles, excitement and lots of busy little bubbles exploring their new school.
CHRISTMAS CAROLS The annual school Carols Night is fast approaching and promises to be a night filled with Christmas spirit as we gather as a community. Next Thursday 26th November, our school community will be gathering on the school oval to celebrate Christmas with a carols evening. The program for the night includes 2 performances by each year level and we thank Mrs Dunn for preparing the children for the night. The evening commences at 6.30pm so we ask that students be seated by 6:15pm. The children will remain with their classes until the completion of the night’s program. Parents are invited to bring picnic blankets, cushions or chairs to make the night comfortable. P&F will be running a BBQ and hot chips on the night starting at 5.45pm! Children and families are invited to wear their Christmas shirt/dress and bring along their Christmas spirit for an evening full of festive fun!
YEAR 6 THANKSGIVING (COMPLETION OF PRIMARY SCHOOL) At 6:00pm on Tuesday 1 December we will gather together for a special occasion where we will acknowledge and thank our current Year 6 leaders for their time at St Joseph’s, before they move on and continue their journey in-to high school next year. This ceremony will take place in St Joseph’s Church. The evening will conclude with din-ner for the children, families and staff in the hall. I thank Ms O’Connor and Miss Marshall for the time and effort which they have put into preparing the evening. I also would like to thank, in advance, the Year 5 students and parents who will help with the catering and serving on the night.
END OF YEAR COMMUNITY MASS At 10am on Friday 4 December we will join with the Parish as a whole school community to celebrate Mass as our final School gathering for 2015. We invite you to join with us for this special celebration. Please note the earlier finish and make appropriate arrangements for your child to be picked up from school. The only buses to be running at this time will be our own school buses to Cherbourg and Wondai.
END OF YEAR REPORTING PROCEDURES Please note that reports will be handed out to students on Monday 30 November. Any family leaving before this date is asked to contact the office so that mailing arrangements can be made. Teachers are not able to provide reports before Monday 30 November. A reminder there are no official parent teacher interview this year. However you are most welcome to arrange an interview with your child’s class teacher or I am also very happy to meet with you.
CANBERRA TRIP 2016 We are at present in the process of starting to organise St Joseph’s bi-annual trip to Sydney and Canberra. Next year our Year 5 and 6 children will be invited to attend this trip. The trip will be from 17 July to 21 July and the children will once again will be travelling by plane. An information evening will be held early next year. We are looking forward to this amazing opportunity.

This fortnight in Program Achieve, students completed their study of Persistence.
This week in Lower Primary, students have been learning to: state that certain things they have to do at school are unpleasant (“yucky”) to do. identify those tasks they find to be unpleasant or “yucky”. explain the meaning of the “Working Tough” way of thinking and how it helps them to be more persistent at accom-
plishing unpleasant tasks.
This week in Middle Primary, students have been learning to: state the importance of not giving up and finishing a task (task persistence). state the advantages of doing schoolwork and chores they find boring or difficult
and the disadvantages of putting off their work. state that “needing” to have fun all the time is not sensible and only makes it hard-
er to have fun as well as get work done as an aspect of learning the “Working Tough” way of thinking.
state some phrases they can incorporate into their thinking to motivate them to start or complete hard or boring work.
This week in Upper Primary, students have been learning to: explain how the “Working Tough” way of thinking can help them get things done. state different things they can do to motivate themselves to get things done.

I would like to thank Jonno Kapernick, Michael Greenwood, Brenna and Sheree Prendergast for volunteering their time to man the pit gate at Kingaroy Speedway on the 7th of November. The money that we make from this will go toward our fundraising efforts for our students to go to Canberra next year.
We are required to do the gate again on Saturday the 5th of December if anyone is interested in volunteering their time.
Just a reminder also, that we have our school Christmas carols next Thursday night, 26th November and then the Murgon Christmas Carnival on Friday 11th of December. If you are available for any of these dates could you please let Sheree know in the office.
Thanks again for your ongoing support of the P & F.
