Notes from Father Nick...
If you wish to be placed on the prayer chain or if you want your names removed, we respectfully ask that you make that request to the Parish Office or
Dot Hellkamp (472-5282).
Because of the spread of the Delta variant of Covid-19 within our county, our Parish Picnic is being postponed from August 22 to another date, that will be announced later. In that same light, as we mentioned at Mass this past weekend, our diocese and the CDC have highly recommended that we wear masks indoors. You may find Bishop Zinkula’s letter mentioning this on our parish’s social media sites or by contacting our Office. Diocesan study includes listening sessions, online survey: Bishop Thomas Zinkula is working to address challenges facing our diocese, and he is asking every parishioner to complete a planning study survey to gather feedback on proposed diocesan goals. (This is separate from the “Rediscovering Sunday” survey that you may have recently completed.) You are invited to visit davenportdiocese.org to learn more about the proposed diocesan goals. You may also complete the survey online at that website: Go to “Diocese of Davenport Fundraising Feasibility Study” on the home page, click on “Take the survey” and enter the password: DAVDIOCESE. You are also invited to learn more by attending one of these listening sessions and then providing your feedback: • Wed., Aug. 11, 7 p.m.: Divine Mercy Parish, 700 Division St., Burlington • Tue., Aug. 17, 7 p.m.: St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 916 E. Rusholme St., Davenport • Wed., Aug. 18, 7 p.m.: St. Patrick Parish, 4330 St. Patrick Dr., Iowa City • Tue., Aug. 24, 7 p.m.: St. John Vianney Parish, 4097 18th St., Bettendorf • Wed., Aug. 25, 7 p.m.: St. Joseph Parish, 417 6th Ave., DeWitt • Tue., Aug. 31, 7 p.m.: Sacred Heart Parish, 1115 S. 8th Ave. E., Newton In today’s gospel, we continue to hear our Lord’s Bread of Life discourse, found in Chapter 6 of St. John’s gospel. These words of Jesus remind us that he alone can satisfy our hungers, he alone can satisfy our thirsts. As we reflect on these words, maybe we could ask ourselves if we are finding our joy in other places, in other things, rather than in Christ Jesus. If so, are we willing to repent and change our ways? In the words of the First Commandment: “I am the Lord your God, you shall not have any gods before Me.” May you continue growing in your love for the Lord!

Thank you! Our NCYC students and chaperones work day on July 25th, doing
yard work for our parishioners.
In the past, we have learned in our parish and other parishes in the area, where scammers were able to mimic messages from priests and in their
messages they were soliciting emergency financial assistance from their parishioners. It is important that
you know that Fr. Nick will never contact you asking for money, gift
cards, or other financial assistance to deal with an emergency.
