6th & 7th Grade LA Classes
6th & 7th Grade LA classes rescheduled a visit to the Library. Attached to
this email is a new permission slip for them to visit the Neenah Library
on January 7. Please sign and return to the school office.
Lion King
The Middle School Musical is The Lion King! Auditions will be held on
January 7th with performances on April 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. Keep scrolling
for students to sign up and complete the Conduct and Commitment
Agreement to be a part of the cast and/or crew.
Audition information Students are to prepare a short song selection and a
short comedic monologue. Both should be under a minute in length. It is
highly recommended that students sing something in the style of musical
theater. Students are welcome to sing a song from The Lion King or any
other musical (No accompaniment needed). Comfort and confidence are
the most important things to showcase. Therefore, if a student does not
want to prepare a song from a musical, they are encouraged to sing
Happy Birthday or Silent Night. Monologues can be taken from past
forensic pieces, movies, books, plays or even created. The purpose is to
show how comfortable and confident the student is on stage, so content is
much less important than presentation. Many students have found Shel
Silverstein poems to be fun place to start.
Service Opportunity
There is an opening on January 11th for helping at the St. Vincent de
Paul food pantry at St. Mary's Parish. The commitment is from 8 - 10
am on that Saturday morning. Here is the link to sign up.
ReconciliationStudents participated very well in the Sacrament of
Reconciliation this morning. There were seven priests present to hear
confessions, offer absolution, give a penance and celebrate God’s loving forgiveness with our entire school community. If your child was absent
today, please check your home parish for a time you can participate in this wonderful Catholic Sacrament which brings God’s grace to all.
Builders ClubBuilders Club will meet tonight after school for a special
Advent Angel activity. The next meeting will be Wednesday, January 15.
All meetings run from 3:20-4:50.
May the Joy of the Savior’s birth bring blessings
to you and your families this Christmas Season.
And, may God bless you all!

The Lion King Jr. 2019-20 Conduct and Commitment Agreement
I, (name) _________________________________________, intend to perform for the St. Mary
Catholic Middle School Players in The Lion King Jr. I state that I am committed to attending the
rehearsals for which I am scheduled and performance dates and consent to the following
guidelines:
• to attend all rehearsal dates and times for which I am scheduled and to have my
music/lines prepared
• to attend all rehearsal dates and performance dates from March 23- April 5
• writing only is pencil in script (which we are renting). Lost scripts will be assessed a
fee of $30, which student/family agrees to pay.
• to bring schoolwork and pens/pencils to all rehearsals so I can do assignments when not
on stage
• to be on time for all rehearsals and the performance
• to uphold the highest standards of conduct as I represent my school for the times on the
rehearsal calendar and to be eligible for participation in all classes (following the
SMCMS Eligibility Standards in the school handbook). If there are failing grades
midFebruary, one of three excused absence will be taken away. If there are any failing
grades at the end of the 3rd Quarter, roles may be reassigned and participation will be
evaluated.
• support and encourage fellow cast and crew members
By signing this form, you commit to and are required to be at all rehearsals for which you are
scheduled and the performances. It is your responsibility to plan ahead to make sure you will
have no obligations that would require you to miss any rehearsal or performance. Should a
conflict arise which prevents you from attending any part of a rehearsal or a performance,
whether athletic event, family obligation, etc., your parent must notify the Director via written
email for approval. Unless and until approval is granted, the absence will be unexcused and
casting reassignments may be made. Students will be allowed a maximum of 3 – excused
absences. If an unscheduled need to be absent arises (such as bereavement or illness), the
Director will determine the consequence for missing rehearsal, which may include casting
reassignment.
You may obtain approval for an excused absence by emailing Kathleen McCurdy at
[email protected] and Hayden Kraus at [email protected]. This is the
only way to obtain approval for an excused absence. You are also welcome to contact either with
questions regarding the production.
Required Dates: March 23-April 5 (No exceptions. Students who are not present these days will
not perform) We will NOT be rehearsing over Winter Break (Feb. 20-24). Show Dates:
Thursday, April 2 @6PM; Friday, April 3 @6PM; Sunday, April 5 @1PM
Students are responsible for their own property at all times. Liability for loss of property,
whether by fire, theft or vandalism, is limited to the student and their school. All performers will
pay $30.00 for this activity and all crew members will pay $15.00. It is expressly understood by
students, parents, administrators, and directors that any infraction of the above rules on
attendance and/or for conduct unbecoming a SMCMS Player may constitute grounds for
dismissal from this musical.

ZFAB Student Art Contest Winter 2020:
“Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things
with great love.” – St. Teresa of Calcutta
Zephyrs Fine Arts Boosters invite all SMCS K-12 students to participate in the Winter Student Art
Contest. The theme is “Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great
love”. We ask that students take inspiration from the St. Teresa of Calcutta quote and create their
work based on acts of love they have either participated in or witnessed. Ideas can come from
scripture or events in their lives that have moved them closer to feeling God’s love for us.
Ideas:
• Hugging a friend when they are sad
• St. Veronica wiping Jesus’ face on the way to Calvary
• Sitting next to someone who is lonely
• Jesus spending time with the rejected (tax collectors)
• Helping your parents without being asked
• Jesus showing compassion to the suffering
• Spending time with someone who is sick
• The widow Tabitha making clothes for the poor (Acts 9:36)
One winner per category (K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12) will receive a $100 Scrip gift card of their choice.
Scrip may coincide with businesses supporting art programs. Selected pieces will be featured in
the Jane Bergstrom Fine Arts Education Center as well as in local parishes.
• Work needs to be 2-D, unframed, and no greater than 16 x 20 inches. Medium is open to
artists choice.
• Submitted work may be used in ZFAB materials and retained through the end of the 2019 -
2020 school year. Some work may be displayed in the parishes for Catholic Schools Week
January 26-February 1, 2020.
• Submissions must be accompanied with a completed submission form (attached) for
consideration to school offices by 3:00 p.m. on January 20.
