Dear Parents and Guardians,
I went to vote yesterday. It was South Africa’s sixth National Election held since 1994. For the last couple of weeks
and months leading up to the Elections, we have been bombarded by everything that is wrong in this beautiful
country of ours. The negativity, racial accusations, crime, violence and constant criticism on most media and social media platforms really tried to push us down every single day. If you want to be negative, it is the easiest
thing to be. There is enough fuel for that fire. It is so easy to get preoccupied with the problems in our lives.
However, the things that go right and are positive, significantly outnumber the things that go wrong. It is so hard
to see it sometimes, because our problems become this unbearable weight that we feel like we are not equipped to carry. But ultimately, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control
remains a choice (the fruits of the Spirit). I see compassion, love and care in action every single day, through
pupils, staff, parents, friends and family.
There is true power in thoughts and words!
“Nothing good and lasting ever comes from resentment and anger. Even if it brings forth a fighting spirit, sooner
or later its fruit will wither and die. Love is the only element that triggers true growth because it carries life in its core. Look around you. You'll see.” - Anna Emm
Whether you succeed or fail is determined by yourself, in your mind, even before a situation plays out. Change
your thoughts, and your life will follow.
I hope to see all our Grade PR and R moms at the Mothers’ Day Tea tomorrow morning at 10h00. Unfortunately,
no tickets will be sold at the door due to catering deadlines.
The Matrics will be working one evening of shadow shifts at Choctaw Spur on Tuesday, 14 May 2019 from 18h00.
We hope to see you there!

You would have seen on Facebook that I have recently joined a number of classes for their PE lessons over the last two weeks. I thoroughly enjoy the time spent with the pupils in a more informal environment. It is definitely
good for my health, but the laughter is probably even better medicine. Here are some of my favourite remarks from the kids:
• How old are you sir? I am 40. I thought you are 110 years old. My gran is 60.
• I don’t think you can balance, sir!
• I love your grey hair.
• You are too heavy for those balancing beams, sir! It is going to break.
• Why are you actually doing this with us?
Needless to say, the sports department was definitely gunning me, because they ensured that I do 60 burpees in
a single session and changing their programme in order to apparently make things easier for me.
We wish all our Mothers a Happy Mothers’ Day on Sunday!
Yours sincerely,
Jacques Tredoux Executive Head

ANNUAL BLANKET DRIVE It is time for the annual Blanket Drive in partnership with Diamond Pavilion Mall. All
pupils are requested to bring as many blankets as they can. Giving blankets is a great way of helping the community. Pupils should give the blankets to their register teachers.
House points will be awarded for every blanket donated. Our blankets will form part of a city-wide collection co-ordinated by Diamond Pavilion Mall, who distribute the blankets
to various charitable organisations in Kimberley.
