Dear Resident/Business Owner
Stirling is hosting the Stirling Scottish Marathon and the inaugural Stirling Scottish Half Marathon on Sunday 29 April 2018, and we are writing to let you know about the road closures and traffic management in place on the day, which will help us make sure the event runs safely and smoothly.
The marathon and half marathon are being supported by Stirling Council and in conjunction with Great Run, and are expected to attract around 6,500 runners. The events will start from 0830, on Millennium Way (A84) and finish on King’s Park Rd in the City Centre. The aim of the marathon and the half marathon is to help people become more active, challenge themselves and have fun. These events are also fantastic for promoting Stirling, Doune, Dunblane, Bridge of Allan and Clackmannanshire.
Before and during the events it will be necessary to implement a number of road closures along the route between 05:00 – 22:00 on Sunday 29 April. The event scheduling also requires a closure of King’s Park Rd from Drummond Place roundabout to Snowdon Place on Saturday 28 April, this closure will go in at 05:00 with the road re-opening 22:00 on Sunday 29 April.
The management of the roads have been agreed with Stirling Council and will be phased, with closures from 05:00 – 09:25; and re-openings from 09:30 – 22:00. Please note that these times are guidelines and emergency vehicles will have managed access at all times.
The roads used by the events are listed in the table on this leaflet. If you require more information relating to specific times and roads, please go to greatrun.org/stirling.
The roads will be reopened in a structured manner, following the last runners in the events. Event infrastructure will be removed and the roads cleaned ahead of them re-opening.
We would ask you to please ensure that cars are not parked on the route (see list of roads used by the events in the table opposite). If you can tailor your travel plans around the timings of event day, we will make sure the roads are closed and re-opened in a safe and timely fashion.
Please take some time to read this information and refer to the website(greatrun.org/stirling) for more in depth detailed information relating to the route, closed roads and the timings associated with the closures/re-openings, as well as how to get involved on the day with regards to supporting and spectating.
Kind regards,The Great Run Team
