Biography: Baptised a Christian to conceal his Jewish
heritage during a period of violent anti-Semitism, Michel grew
up in a lively, prosperous (his father Jacques was a notary)
and warm household.
He was an enthusiastic and gifted student, with exceptional
mathematical ability and a great love and mastery of
astrology (known then as "celestial science").
His grandfathers Jean de Rmy and Pierre de Nostredame
(both of them doctors) noticed that Michel displayed a
remarkable talent for prophecy at a very young age and they
both taught him daily.

Nostradamus acquired a great reputation as a doctor by
treating victims of the bubonic plague (Le Charbon) which
ravaged that part of Europe.
His methodology contravened established medical practice
of the period, since he opposed the traditional treatment of
"bleeding" patients to rid them of disease. He invented an
oral vitamin C supplement (rose pills) to enhance immune
response in his patients. He met with considerable
skepticism among his medical peers at the time.
By 1566, Nostradamus's gout, turned into edema, or dropsy
and he died on 2 July.

o The prophecies are written as four-lined rhymed
verses (quatrains) in vague, often cryptic
language.
o Nostradamus' fondness for anagrams and his
penchant for sprinkling his verses with Hebrew,
Latin, and Portuguese words further complicates
interpretation of his predictions.
o Some interpreters say the verses can be applied
to anything, or nothing!

Because Nostradamus
included very few dates in his
prophecies and because,
additionally, he did notorganize them into a
chronological order, the verses
have been constantly
reinterpreted since the time oftheir publication. Most
academic sources maintain
that the associations made
between world events and
Nostradamus's quatrains arethe result of misinterpretations,
understood retroactively,
or else are so tenuous asto render them useless as
evidence of any genuine
predictive power.

From Preface: Understand me well.
I do not say that the knowledge of this matter
cannot yet impress itself upon human mind, nor do
I say that very distant events are not within the
knowledge of reasoning man.
If future events are merely the creation of the
intellectual soul out of current events, they are not
by any means too greatly hidden from him, nor, on
the other hand, can they be said to be revealed at
all.

But the perfect knowledge of events cannot be
acquired without divine inspiration since all prophetic
inspiration receives its prime motivating force from
God the Creator, then from
good fortune and nature.
For this reason, the presage occurs in part, where
it has been predicted, in proportion to the extent to
which similar events have manifested themselves
similarly or have failed to manifest themselves.

Revealing in writing that which the Divine Spirit
has made known, through the revolutions of the
stars, to the common benefit of mankind
Events of human origin are uncertain, but all is
regulated and governed by the incalculable
power of God, inspiring us through the influences
of the stars. Only those divinely inspired can
predict particular things in a prophetic spirit.

As the true Saviour said, "Give not that which is holy unto
dogs, nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample
them under their feet and turn and rend you." This has been
the cause of my withholding my tongue from the profane,
and my pen from paper.
Later, because of the vulgar advent, I decided to give way
and, by dark and cryptic sentences, tell of the causes of the
future mutation of mankind; especially the most urgent ones,
and the ones I perceived, and in a manner that would not
upset their fragile sentiments.

By means of the Immortal God, and his good Angels, they received the spirit of prophecy, by which they see
distant things and foresee future events.
For nothing can be accomplished without Him whose
power and goodness to His creatures is so great that
as long as these dwell in them, much as they may be
exposed to other influences, on account of their good
genius this prophetic heat and power approaches us. It approaches us like the rays of the sun, which cast
their influence on bodies both elementary and non-
elementary.

So that what is predicted, and is true, has an ethereal
origin. This light and the thin flame are altogether
efficacious, and are of heavenly origin no less than
natural light.
And it is the latter which renders philosophers so sure ofthemselves that by means of the principles of the first
cause they have penetrated to the innermost cores of the
loftiest of doctrines. But an end to this, for I must notstray too far from the future capacity of senses.

With divine inspiration integrated with astrological
computations, one can name places and periods of time
accurately: an occult property obtained through divine virtue,
power and ability. By means of this, past, present and future
become but one eternity - for all things are naked and open.
Understand that things which are to happen can be
prophesied by the lights of the sky at night, which are natural,
coupled with the spirit of prophecy. I would not assume the
name or power of a prophet. It is as a mortal man, whose
senses revealed inspiration places no further from Heaven
than his feet are from the ground.

The sword of death is approaching us, as pestilence, war,
and famine. This famine returns to earth, often, according
to the words, "I will visit their iniquities with a rod of iron,
and will strike them with blows."
For the mercy of the Lord, shall not be extended for a
long time, not until prophecies will have become
resolved, by accomplishment . Then, several times during
the sinister storms, the Lord will say, "I will trample them,
and break them, and not show pity."

"The blood of the just will be demanded of London
Burnt by fire in the year '66
The ancient Lady will fall from her high place
And many of the same sect will be killed."
What happened: The small fire that started in the
bakery of Thomas Farriner on Pudding
Lane in London September 2, 1666 (in the year
'66) turned into a three day blaze that
consumed the city.

[IV.32] In those times and places that meat gives way to fish the
law of commune will be opposed. The old order will hold strong,
then removed from the scene, then all things common among
friends put far behind. _ [Could U C this in1990?]
During the early 1990s in Soviet Union and Communist Europe
(in those times and places), when the economic condition in
these countries deteriorated (meat gave way to fish),
Communism (the law of commune) was opposed by the
people. The old leaders were removed from powers. Ultimately
Communism (all things common among friends - equality
among friends - comrades) collapsed.

o In the 460 years since Nostradamus penned his
prophecies, he has become a widely heralded prophet in
history because of the accuracy of his prognostications.
o Despite the continuous worldwide acclaim of his
prophecies since the Middle Ages up through the modernera, there has also existed a vocal group of Nostradamus
detractors who adamantly refuse to concede that he
accurately predicted the future.o They believe that he was a fraud that was devoid of any
supernatural influence.

Recent research has shown that most of his prophetic work
was based on paraphrasing collections of ancient end-of-
the world prophecies (mainly Bible-based) and
supplementing their insights by projecting known historical
events and identifiable anthologies of omen-reports into the
future. His major prophetic source was evidently the
Mirabilis Liber of 1522, which contained a range of
prophecies by Pseudo-Methodius, the Tiburtine Sibyl,
Joachim of Fiore, Savonarola and others (his Preface
contains no less than 24 biblical quotations, all but two of
them in exactly the same order as Savonarola).

His methodology, was mainly literary, and it is doubtful
whether Nostradamus used any particular methods for
entering a trance state, other than contemplation, meditation
and incubation (i.e. ritually 'sleeping on it'). The legend that
he attempted the ancient methods of flame gazing, water
gazing or both simultaneously is based on an uninformed
reading of his first two verses, which merely liken his own
efforts to those of the Delphic and Branchidic oracles. He
described his method as: "emptying my soul, mind and heart
of all care, worry and unease through mental calm and
tranquility"

End of the World time period of 1999 to 2012 is happilyover and WW III is not round the corner.
About more mundane predictions on natural disasters and
local war like terrorism, there are no predictions to verify
whether Nostradamus made any solutions to these.
Make interpretation in clearer language, so that despite
their obscurities these things shall be understood: Now the
time comes for the removal of ignorance, the matter be
clearer still.

In general, many of Nostradamus' prophecies include 16th-
century French terms that aren't clear to most
modern interpreters. Particular words could be interpreted
in any number of ways, and they can be twisted easily to fit
an actual event. In Nostradamus' time, for example,
"Hister" referred to a geographical region near the Danube
river. Most likely, skeptics argue, Nostradamus was
referring to this area, not to a person. (Hitler was in fact
born near the Danube river, so many believers actually
embrace this interpretation).
-

The compelling argument against Nostradamus' powers is
that his apparent "hits" are the result of random chance and
creative interpretation. There are about a thousand quatrains,
most containing more than one prediction and all but a few
described in vague, obscure terms. Over the course of
hundreds of years, it's certainly possible that some events
would line up with some predictions, simply by coincidence.
In fact, Nostradamus may have phrased his prophecies with
exactly this in mind. Most quatrains refer to deaths, wars or
natural disasters, events that are sure to occur again and
again throughout history.
-

Nostradamus' esoteric style also increases the chances of a
perceived hit. His metaphorical writing highlights general
relationships and conflicts, not specific details. People, or
possibly nations, are described as animals; major figures
are referred to by their attributes. The quatrain for example,
refers to "beasts ferocious with hunger," "the great one,"
and "a cage of iron," all general terms with metaphorical
elements. This impreciselanguage does lend itself well to
subjective interpretation -- when the exact meaning is
unclear, it's easy to plug in one's own experiences to reach
some sort of understanding.

For a man who hasn't written anything in well over
400 years, Nostradamus' works and biographies
show no signs of slowing down.
Researcher James Randi, author of "The Mask of
Nostradamus," points out that "Nostradamusmanaged to produce more than any other prophet
in history. His reputation, is due to the ardent horde
of his disciples who continue to hyperbolize,
bowdlerize, and invent in order to perpetuate his
fame "
