Sub Cultures exist because humans have a need of belongingand want to be part of a group which share the same values. This clearly shapes there identity.

THE ROLES WHICH WE ADOPT IN
GROUPS.....
When in different groups it would seem we behave in a way which is suitable to that particular group, or social class.
We can label people according to their perceived social status.

Sub cultures have shared values which can sometimes be stereotyped.

SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS.
A social representation is a stock of values, ideas, beliefs and practices that are
shared amongst members of groups and communities.

the individual is very much a western creation,
deriving from the western political attitude to
individualism,

I don’t really feel as if I belong to a particular sub culture, this is because I don't
think I have one style of clothing which is stereotyped or well known.

The fashion industry has a major effect on many
individuals. As due to the various advertisements and
celebrities representing certain clothing, it reflects on
society, and results in young girls feeling the need to buy
things of the latest fashion, in order for them to feel
accepted.

Make up is a way of bringing up our
self esteem. It often raises your
confidence, just by having longer eye lashes or having a
darker complexion.

Not only do the compliments of others help raise my self-esteem, but so do the brands/labels of clothes I wear. As I would have a
higher self esteem if I was wearing a dress from Topshop rather than Primark, but in reality no one would know where my dress was from
without looking at the label.

your self esteem.

SELF-CONCEPT.
Self-concept consists of three elements:
1. Self-image
2. Ideal-self
3. Self-esteem
The opinion I have of myself is
that I’m hard working and easy
to talk to.
The person I would like
to be, would be
someone with big plans
for the future and had a
good job.
I don’t think I have a low self-esteem,
but then again I wouldn’t think I have a
high self-esteem. Though I am usually
quite confident.

My public self is the person i feel comfortable to be, when in the company of others I am not familiar with.
I feel as though my private self is the side of my personality I would feel comfortable showing to my family and
close friends.
However my core self is the side to my personality which I do not express to others, and keep it private to myself.
Although in some cases I may not be aware of certain elements of my private self, this cold be a flaw which I am not
consciously aware of.

HIGH CULTURE AND LOW
CULTURE.
Low culture
![Page 25: Sub cultures- coursework](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022060205/55a19bb31a28abec748b4893/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
The reason why many cultural products and practices are seen as low culture, can be due to the fact that they have
not earnt their high value, either because of time, popularity, and even because of it not having any
relevance to that country or expressing a country's beliefs or ‘culture’.
