1. TRADITIONAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Cindi opened the meeting at 10:10am and on behalf of the Sunshine Coast Council and acknowledged
the traditional custodians of the lands from across Queensland and paid respect to the elders both past and present. Cindi also acknowledged Reconciliation Week 2015.
2. WELCOME AND APOLOGIES Meeting apologies were noted and attendees introduced themselves.
3. SUNSHINE COAST COUNCIL CONNECT
3.1 Professional Development for Local Youth Services - Cindi, Sunshine Coast Council

3.2 Council’s Youth Engagement Program - Cindi, Sunshine Coast Council
Application’s close for Sunshine Coast Council’s Youth Engagement Committee on 29 May 2015. Please contact Cindi for further information.
3.3 Mapping of youth services on the Sunshine Coast - Cindi, Sunshine Coast Council
In response to direct requests from service providers and young people and their families, in 2015-2016, Cindi will commence mapping all youth organisations and programs on the Sunshine Coast
Once the mapping project is completed it will be decided how this information is shared within the community. The aim is to effectively market and increase awareness of the services and programs available for young people and their families on the Sunshine Coast
Cindi will be undertaking further engagement on this project with organisations in the near future.
3.4 Sunshine Coast Grants Program – Cindi, Sunshine Coast Council

4. YOUTH SERVICES CONNECT 4.1 The Industry Skills Fund-Youth Stream - Sophie Morley & Leah Cavanagh - Electorate Office
of the Hon. Mal Brough MP, Federal Member for Fisher
Youth Employment Pathways is part of the youth stream of the Industry Skills Fund and supports young people aged 15-18 years to get back into school, move into the workforce or start vocational education. The program has been directly marketed to schools on the Sunshine Coast.
This is a pilot program for the Sunshine Coast and Sophie and Leah are seeking feedback on the program.

4.3 Students Futures Website & ‘Be Work Smart’ Booklet - Carol Gollschewsky, Regional Youth

The Student Futures Website is being updated regularly with all the information you may need for supporting students transitioning into further training or employment. https://ipl.eq.edu.au/programs/student-futures/Pages/default.aspx
Now available online is the Be Work Smart Booklet. Training Queensland, North Coast Region, in partnership with local businesses, has developed a pre-employment skills checklist resource to help young people Be Work Smart.https://ipl.eq.edu.au/programs/student-futures/Pages/Be-Work-Smart.aspx Also in this area are videos from local businesses talking about what they look for in new workers in their business
I would also encourage you to explore the disability area of the Student Futures website specifically under the heading NDCO. https://ipl.eq.edu.au/programs/student-futures/Pages/Disability-Support-%e2%80%93-Student-Futures.aspx There are some great resources/ employer videos to support students applying for employment in this area, especially under the NDCO area.
4.4 OneHeart Training Academy Inc. - Charlie Wetere
Charlie was unable to attend the meeting and Suzi Scrimshaw presented on Charlie’s behalf
OneHeart Training Academy Inc was officially opened in March 2015 by Bruce and Denise Morcombe. The Training Academy is in memory of their son Daniel. Charlie has worked with the Daniel Morecombe Foundation for the last 7 years.
One Heart Training Academy is located at 34 C-Square, 52-64 Currie Street, Nambour
‘One Heart’ will support young people in need and provide a safe space for them to engage in activities such as boxing classes by trainer Steve Moody, Freestyle Martial Arts, self-defence classes and child safety awareness training
‘One Heart’ will also be providing cultural classes for the Maori and ATSI cultures

4.5 Next Step After Care Program – Danielle Wells, Next Step Program, IFYS
Next Step Aftercare is a state wide after care support program for young people 15-21 years
IFYS provides this program for the North Coast region (Strathpine to Gympie). Program started in March 2015 on the Sunshine Coast
Next Step provides case management and individualised support with some brokerage
To be eligible, young people need to have left care and have been on a long term guardianship order to the Chief Executive and have no other formal supports.

Further information is available on the website www.nextstepaftercare.com.au which young people have assisted to develop.

4.6 Brett Phillips Coaching - Brett Phillips
Brett holds a Diploma of Youth Work, Certificate IV in Life Coaching and has worked in policing (Victorian Police force) for 20 years where he specialised in the proactive youth field
Brett has worked directly with young people, schools, families, businesses, government, Youth Justice, community groups on various youth programs
Brett’s Life Coaching work focus on personal development, communication and leadership skills, discipline and home based strategies for parents/carers to reconnect and communicate with young people in their care
Brett is current Sunshine Coast families offering Life Coaching and is keen to expand his services and work with local youth services. Brett Phillips Coaching currently fee for service

5.0 OTHER UPDATES 5.1 PCYC Sunshine Coast, Sergeant Marty Hunt, Manager
Sunshine Coast PCYC is celebrating its 40th birthday in 2015
On 5 July 2015 (10am-2pm) Sunshine Coast PCYC will be holding a FREE Family Fun Day for the community, including a range of activities happening throughout the day
Sunshine Coast PCYC also support the delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh Award program on the Sunshine Coast which engages young people 14-25 years in activities to develop their skills and build connections www.dukesaward.qld.gov.au
5.2 TAFE QLD, East Coast - Melanie Williams, Student Support Officer,
TAFE Open Days are scheduled for:
o 16 June 2015 Mooloolaba and Nambour campus o 24 June 2015 Gympie campus o 25 June 2015 Maroochydore
Student Support Officers and TAFE Teachers will be available at the Open Days to discuss courses
available in Semester 2, commencing 15 July 2015 5.3 One Heart Community Markets – Suzi Scrimshaw

5.4 Circus Connect - Suzi Scrimshaw, Facilitator
New program on the Sunshine Coast using interactive skills to engage and inspire young people
Program aims to work collaboratively with other programs and organisations across the Sunshine Coast
As the Facilitator, Suzi is fully ensured, holds a current Blue Card and has first aid certificate.

5.5 Buderim Foundation - Amy Doran, Youth Committee Member
Buderim Foundation Community Grants Program opens in June 2015 (date to be confirmed)
Applicants must be based in Buderim or currently deliver services to Buderim residents or have the capacity to deliver services in Buderim, including Sippy Downs and Forest Glen
Detailed information will be distributed to the Youth Connect network once available and will also be available on the Buderim Foundation website: www.buderimfoundation.org.au
5.6 Amy Doran, Gold Training
Gold Training are delivering the Gold Ambition program which has been designed to equip Sunshine Coast young people 18-25 years with skills in networking, interview techniques, business etiquette and how to find support in the small business community

5.7 Kerry Evans, Regional Manager, Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay, SU QLD (Scripture Union)
SU QLD School Chaplains have been providing support in schools for 25 years.
The School Chaplaincy Snapshot publication is now available which highlights activities, benefits and findings of the Chaplaincy program

5.8 The Smith Family, Marion Allan
Nancy McCann, Program Coordinator, Family Partnerships will be working to support the scholarship program with partner schools, including the introduction of partnerships agreements between families and schools which will focus on student engagement and support
Annette from the Smith Family will be focusing on the Sunshine Coast Let’s Read Program. The Let’s Read program provides disadvantaged parents and carers with reading books and support to encourage them to have fun reading with their young children. The program also encourages children to develop a love of books and the ability to name letters and play with the sounds of words.

Supporting Young People with Mental Health Concerns This professional development series is provided FREE as part of Sunshine Coast
Council’s commitment to building strong and resilient youth services on the Sunshine Coast.
Mental health is a considerable issue for young people today. For people who work to support young people, particularly those experiencing or at risk of mental health concerns, knowledge and understanding of youth mental health is crucial. Participants will attend two x three hour workshops; including case studies and a small ‘on the job’ project between workshops. This two-part workshop series will provide:
An overview of youth mental health, with a focus on how youth and education sector workers can support resilience in this group;
Self-care for youth and education sector workers; and Team support and wellbeing strategies for education sector workers.

Presenters Dr Caroline Gregory, Psychologist

Caroline is a clinical psychologist who has several years experience in the delivery of assessment and treatment services for children, adolescents, and adults with a broad range of psychological conditions. Caroline has worked in public mental health, educational, and primary health settings, as well as private practice. She specialises in the treatment of anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, and stress related issues, and is passionate about helping people to achieve their potential. Caroline predominantly provides psychological treatment from Cognitive Behavioural and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy frameworks.
Matt McFarlane, Psychologist
BPsych(Hons), MOrgPsych, BA(crim), MAPS
Matt is a psychologist with experience consulting to a range of public, not for profit and private organisations specialising in the areas of organisational health and wellbeing, staff support and leadership development. Matt’s experience includes supporting government and not for profit teams and individuals through their work with complex client issues, particularly in the youth and welfare sector. Matt’s role includes facilitating group-based interventions and professional supervision with groups and individuals. Matt also has experience working for the Queensland Government in a range of youth / youth justice policy and program roles.
