EdSource reporter Carolyn Jones writes about the relatively high math scores third graders scored on statewide assessments, which may be proof that Common Core
is having a positive effect on math education.
In Moreno Valley Unified, we did also experience growth in 3rd grade Math.We went from 24% Met and Exceeded in 2016 to 31.62 % in 2017.
This was a growth of almost 8% (7.62%).
3rd Grade ELA grew as well. 25% in 2016 to 27.55% in 2017, a growth of 2.5%.

• All elementary schools at 95% or higher North Ridge at 97.15% Ridge Crest 96.83% La Jolla at 96.84%
• More good news, all of our middle schools are at 95% or higher Landmark at 96.68%
• We are elated to report that all of our high schools are at 95% or higher as well Vista del Lago High School at 95.75%
• The good news doesn’t stop there, our alternative schools’ attendance is very impressive Bayside 84.48% March Mountain 89.39% March Valley 90.02% Online Academy Elementary 97.82%
• Additionally, our Special Education students’ attendance is doing better than last year,with all levels increasing

PicturesDr. Patricia Bazanos, Principal and Ms. Mara Rodriguez, Counselor presented information about Moreno Valley Community Adult School (MVCAS) to parents of Moreno Valley College's Head Start Program.
As partners in the Riverside "About Students" Consortium, MVCAS was invited by RCC, who indicated that the parents had been asking about the availability of Adult Education, especially English Language classes, in Moreno Valley.

Latino Film Fest and Art Walk

Cinema Culturas in partnership with the City of Moreno Valley will host a Latin Film Festival, which
will feature award-winning films from Mexico as well as student films throughout the weekend.
We are proud to say that five student-written and directed films from teacher Rick Wallace's class at Midland Elementary School have been selected to show on the big screen as part of
the festival. The films were created by the 4th-grade students during the 2016-17 school year as part of the Latin Film Institute Youth Cinema
Project sponsored by Edward James Olmos.
The student films will be shown at noon on Sunday, October 29 at Harkins
Theatres at the Moreno Valley Mall. The student screening is free to the public.

Golden Bell Validation Visit

Mr. Bill Newberry, RCSBA President, made the validation visit to Seneca classrooms,
and has CONFIRMED the Golden Bell Award, bringing the MVUSD total to 8 Golden Bells!
