RUBY JACKETED LAMPSRuby jacketed infrared lamps have thesame purpose as the ruby slim but withthe added feature of a secondary tubewhich gives the lamp tube insideprotection against foreign bodies thatmay damage the lamp by attaching itsself to the lamp tube causing ablackening effect that would otherwisecause the lamp to fail prematurely. Thelamp also has more protected againstknocks that would normally break thelamp. It also reduces the glare thatcomes from the lamp.

HOW DOES INFRA-RED WORK?• Near-infrared (near-IR) - Closest to visible light, near-IR has wavelengths that range from 0.7 to
1.3microns, or 700 billionths to 1,300 billionths of a meter.
• Mid-infrared (mid-IR) - Mid-IR has wavelengths ranging from 1.3 to 3 microns. Both near-IR and mid-IR areused by a variety of electronic devices, including remote control.
• Far-infrared (thermal-IR) - Occupying the largest part of the infrared spectrum, thermal-IR haswavelengths ranging from 3 microns to over 30 microns.
You probably learned about infrared light when you studied wavelengths in science class at school. You alsomight have heard about infrared radiation or infrared technology, just from casual tidbits on TV commercialsor in magazines. But to be honest, you've either forgotten or never really grasped the science behindwavelengths and light spectrums. So you pretty much draw a blank when you try to figure out what infraredheaters do.
Infrared light isn't visible because it's beyond the spectrum we can see. That's the gist of an infrared heater:The heat is a product of light that is invisible to our eyes. The reason we get warm from an infrared heater isbecause our skin and clothes absorb the light. It's like the difference between being directly in the sunlightversus sitting in the shade. You feel warm in the sun because the light that hits your clothes and skin keepsyou warm, but when you're in the shade, the light doesn't reach you as well.
Infrared heaters also differ in fuel source and construction material. The electric heaters are either ceramic (farwave), quartz (medium wave) or infra lamps (short wave).
Infrared heaters have certain specifications and should be used only in certain situations. These heaters can bemore environmentally friendly energy efficient.
Please call us to discuss your application.

Applications for infra-red ceramic heaters range fromthermoforming machines to ovens for drying glued wood andfurniture parts. These types of elements are normally used forheating or drying processes. Typical applications arevacuum/thermoforming, shrink wrapping lines, paints and inkdrying, water evaporation, industrial and commercial spaceheating and food warming stations.
At Under Control Instruments we have a full range of ceramic long-wave infra-red heaters. All our ceramicheaters have CE and UL approvals so quality is assured.
We also can supply a range of accessories, including high-temperature cables, ceramic blocks and energyregulators.
Ceramic Infrared Heater elements are very energy efficient converting 96% of the input power to heat and amaximum temperature of 700ºC. Standard voltages are 120, 220, 230, 240 and 480 and standard wattagesrange between 150 and 1000.
Features
• 10,000 – 30,000 hours working life!
• Maximum temperature of 700ºC.
• Heating wire embedded into flat or concave shaped heater creates infrared in either focused orparallel rays.
• In compliance with all implemented EU
• Watt densities vary from 6.45 w/in2 to 38.71 w/in2 (1 w/cm2 to 6 w/cm2.)
• Can be supplied complete with K type thermocouple.

Temperature control
We recommend the use of a temperature pyrometersfor temperature control of thermoforming applications.
Quartz infrared heaters provide short to medium wavelengthradiation and can be the most preferred source of heat whenrapid heater response is needed.
They are normally used for fast response applications, where theproduct cycles are shorter than that of ceramic heaters and where
several tool changes throughout the day will be made. These types of heater heat up and cool down in lessthan half the time of ceramic heaters
The quartz heaters are comprised of a series of quartz tubes running parallel to each other within a highlyreflective stainless steel housing. Each tube contains a coiled resistance wire available in a variety of wattagesand voltages. Watt densities up to 30 w/sq. inch (4.65 w/sq. cm) are available. The large variety of sizes, shapes, and watt densities allows quartz emitters to be highly useful in zoning arrangements such as plasticthermoforming sheet-fed applications where complex heating patterns are needed, high-speed roll-fedprocesses, and machines requiring precise zone control because they are small in size, and can easily be put inlarger panels.
These quartz heaters are approximately the same size as our ceramic infrared heaters.
Quartz infrared heaters are used in a various applications including vacuum forming, thermoforming curingand heating applications.
Features
1. Fast Response
2. Rapid heat-up
3. Rapid cool down
4. Ideal for fast cycling machines
5. Highly reflective stainless steel casing
6. High radiant efficiency
7. Low convection losses
8. Four standard Sizes
