Welcome to the exciting preservation of the Alamo, one of the most historically significant sites in the United States. It is not only the site of the most celebrated military engagement in Texas history but also remains one of the ultimate symbols of the spirit of patriotic sacrifice.
Currently, the Alamo is undergoing a vital transformation to preserve the historic site and enhance the experience for its visitors. This multi-year, multi-phase restoration includes careful preservation of the Alamo Church and Long Barrack and the creation of a world-class museum and visitor center. The new museum will house the priceless Alamo collection of British rock star Phil Collins, including hundreds of documents, artifacts, weapons and more. The work will also include restoring the mission’s historic footprint. While visiting the Alamo, you will be able to witness the preservation efforts.
Once completed, this site will share the complex history of this revered site in ways that will engage visitors in both the story of the legendary battle of 1836 as well as events from the Alamo’s founding dating back from 1718 to the present.
It is anticipated that construction will conclude in 2024. During this process, the Alamo will continue to be free and open to the public. Businesses around Alamo Plaza continue to welcome guests, and visitors may also jump on sightseeing buses and horse carriages from the area. We deeply appreciate your patience during the restoration of this icon of history and hope you enjoy being part of history in the making.
For assistance, information, maps and more, visit the Official Visitor Information Center, across from the Alamo at 317 Alamo Plaza.
