The flags and banners are up! Our 8th Annual Festival & Street Fair is six days away! Here we go again! I have seen it become one of the most anticipated events in town and surrounding communities as an opportunity to introduce our businesses and local government to its residents. It’s a day for fun and relaxation from our youngest to our senior residents.A lot of work has gone into this exciting venue. We have been meeting and planning since last May. I want to thank Supervisor Michael Grace and his staff, the Parks and Recreation Department, the Yorktown Police, the Ambulance Corp, the Fire Department, the Board of Directors and the Festival Committee for an outstanding Job. You can see how many come together to make this day happen!!As you walk around among the more than 20,000 visitors, you will experience more than 200 vendors, a hot dog eating contest, open mic, a hula hoop contest, the food court, day-long entertainment, the car show and the enjoyment of watching your children on the many rides and entertainments provided just for them. What a great day for all!At this point I am sure everyone has read and heard that the Breslin Realty is bringing Lowes into Yorktown using the same footprint, but with a lower height as Costco, and including two restaurants and a bank. What a great day for Yorktown! The Chamber has been working closely with Breslin Realty to make this happen and thank them for staying with the project to make it become a reality. Approximately $900,000 a year will be generated into the tax base in Yorktown of which $800,000 of that will be going into our school district. We will keep you posted as the project moves along. At the end of September, you received a letter in the mail asking if you are interested in running for a board position. Each and every year a number of board positions are up for renewal. Sometimes a board member will elect not to renew due to other obligations, other times a new candidate for a board position will express interest and decide to become a selection on the slate of candidates. We always need motivated and energetic people who want to use their skills to implement
new programs and ideas. As the Chamber grows and expands we face greater challenges and we need your help in order to accomplish them. Replies are due in the Chamber office by October 14.Our first post summer networking meeting at the Holiday Inn Express was very well attended. It is good to know that finally there is a new hotel in our vicinity. Our upcoming Breakfast Networking meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 4 at Frankie & Augie’Z Ristorante in Jefferson Valley at 7:30 am. It’s a great opportunity to exchange ideas and network in the morning when the evening networking meetings might be difficult to attend.I would like to thank everyone who makes a contribution to this organization. The organization belongs to you and its success is a direct result of your continued support and help.See you at the Festival, enjoy the glorious fall season, and as always my door is always open to all members with any concerns or suggestions.Eric DiBartolo President

The DR Is InIt is very sad when members of the same family do not talk with each other. The children suffer for the
adult ego. Cousins miss the wonderful opportunity to be together, and all due to a bruised adult ego. Stop getting offended. Reunite with your family members. One day, your imaginary conflict will all come to an
end…with or without you. Don’t wait until it’s too late.
