Oideas GaelSince its foundation in 1984, Oideas Gaelhas attracted hundreds of participantsannually to its highly acclaimed languagecourses and cultural programmes. Irishpeople, drawn from all backgrounds,constitute up to half of those attending,while the remainder travel specially fromnumerous other parts of the world toattend. The unique blend of expertlyprepared courses, together with anattractive mix of cultural sessions, alllocated within Gaeltacht communities,enabling learners to improve their fluencyin Irish while, at the same time, enjoyingour living culture. As an alternative to the
graded language courses, a broad range ofcultural activity programmes is offered toparticipants interested in experiencing aunique style of learning holiday.
Foras Cultúir Uladh Foras Cultúir Uladh (The Ulster CulturalInstitute), with its custom-designedfacilities, including wireless broadband,(free to course participants), is used byOideas Gael in Gleann Cholm Cille as thevenue for its varied activities and caters forthe specific needs of language learners andthe special requirements of the culturalprogramme.

Language CoursesCúrsaí Gaeilge
OIDEAS GAEL language courses are speciallydesigned to cater for the needs of adults atall learning stages, including those who aremore advanced but in need of practice. Each
course contains three or more levels:beginner, intermediate and advanced and isusually of one week’s duration.
CLASS TUITION is by specialist teacherswho use graded courses, supported by modernaudio-visual resources, as well as other provenmethods of language teaching. The dailyschedule consists of intensive morning andafternoon tutorials with attention directedtowards spoken Irish (except for some units atthe highest level) aiming at correctpronunciation, proper idiom and developmentof vocabulary, particularly of contemporarylife. Our aim is to foster conversational abilityand fluency, with up to 35 language contacthours per course. Recreational activities such asdancing, poetry, or guest lectures take placeeach evening, after which participants arefree to practise their Irish with people from all

Cultural Activity Courses
Cúrsaí Cultúrtha Cultural activity courses are organised in a bilingual form, making themequally attractive to people with little or no Irish. All courses offer participantsan unparalleled opportunity to enjoy an activity holiday within a rich culturalsetting. All participants in the cultural courses are encouraged to take part inthe evening schedule of dancing, song, poetry and concerts.
