PREAMBLE
Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology a reputed research and educational institute under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India dedicated to contribute substantially in achieving the Nation’s vision in the food sector. The institute formulates research in diversified areas of food processing and creates qualified human resources through its continued efforts over a period of four decades. Besides, promoting formal education in the food processing the institute also offers skill development courses and consultancies to the industry. The institute established an ISO (22000:2005 FSMS, 14001:2004 EMS, 9000/HACCP-QMS & HACCP) certified state of the art facility which promotes farmers, entrepreneurs, rural youth and self help groups to establish new and innovative food processing businesses. The centre imparts regular hand on trainings and consultancy at various levels and based on the requirements of the clients. The unit operations available at the centre can be utilized on custom hiring by the clients for product manufacturing and test market the products. IICPT has a world class hi-tech food testing laboratory accredited by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories Under ISO/IEC 17025:2005. The laboratory is managed by qualified and experienced scientists and technicians for testing food samples and handling analytical equipments. The laboratory is one of its kind and unique in serving the food industries, research institutes and other stake holders in areas of food processing.
IICPT has forged strong links with and between the scientific and industrial community in India and abroad. The Institute has formal agreements with major R&D organizations/Universities for collaborative research, student and faculty exchange programs. IICPT has signed Memorandum of Understanding with reputed international and national level institutions. The innovations and expertise of the
institute are being recognized by the stakeholders in the sector across the country. Through appropriate technology transfer strategy and close monitoring and follow up assistance at the post training and consultancy sessions, the institute has witnessed a wide range of successful business ventures in food processing at grass root levels. The institute is privileged to bring the compendium of illustrative successes in technology commercialization and skill promotion as part of knowledge sharing endeavor among the peers all over the world.

INDUSTRY TIE-UP FOR SCALE-UP OF INNOVATION
PNEUMATIC GRAIN PUMP
At present, Available material han-dling systems in rice mill industry are Bucket elevators, Belt convey-ors, screw conveyors, wheel bar-rows, hand and power operated trucks, Tractors and trailers.
Drawbacks of the existing sys-tems are higher percentage of wastage/broken, dusty environ-ment, Spillage, huge construction
set up and no mobility. To solve this problem, pneumatic grain pump has been developed. The pump conveys 2.5 tonnes of paddy and 3.8 tonnes of lentil grain vertically up to 30 feet lift per hour. The pow-er consumption of the grain pump was 4 kilowatts per hour and one semi skilled person is required for operating the pump. The operating cost of the grain pump including labour cost is Rs 550/day (8 hrs). Now the pump is subjected for scale-up for industrial applications.
