LOCATION
The development is located on the South Eastern side of an established residential street off East Dulwich Grove in the London Borough of Southwark, South East London. Denmark Hill and East Dulwich lie to the North, North Dulwich and Herne Hill to the West and Dulwich Village to the South.
The Charter School, East Dulwich will be permanently based on the major part of the site on East Dulwich Grove previously occupied by the East Dulwich Community Hospital. The site is subject to a multi-million pound regeneration project in order to produce a state-of-the-art learning facility. The Charter School is a coeducational secondary school with academy status in Dulwich.
The Charter School was born from the local community’s need for the government to provide a good state secondary school in the Dulwich area, due in part to the high concentration of private schools (James Allen’s Girls’ School or JAGS, Alleyns and Dulwich College).
The surrounding area is predominantly residential with the exception of Dulwich Community Hospital (East Dulwich Primary Care Trust) located to the North of the site. The development is in close proximity to a couple of Mainline and Underground stations, within short walking distance of East Dulwich and Denmark Hill stations. There are a number of buses running along East Dulwich Grove providing good connections
