Normative References
Tests were carried out according to the requirements of the following standards:
– UNI EN 13813:2004 dated 01/01/2004 “Screed material and floor screeds - Screed material - Properties
and requirements”;
– UNI EN 13892-6:2004 dated 30/11/2004 “Methods of test for screed materials - Determination of surface
hardness”.
Test method
The test is performed by measuring the depth of the indentation of a load “F” of (500 ± 5) N produced by a
steel ball of diameter “D” 10 mm and applied for 1 min. After this period, the steel ball is unloaded to the
preload level of (10 ± 0,1) N. After an additional minute, the indentation depth “t” is measured using a dial
gauge to the nearest 0,01 mm.
Surface hardness is calculated using the following equation:
tD
FSH
⋅π⋅
=
where: SH = surface hardness, in N/mm²;
F = load produced by the steel ball, in N;
D = diameter of the steel ball, in mm;
t = indentation depth, in mm.
