With more than 25.3 crore school going children, India has an unique opportunity to grow rapidly based on the demographic advantage over the nextdecade. Multiple global reports and studies by renowned organizations such as World Economic Forum, IBM and Adobe have stated that Creativity isgoing to be one of the key factors for students to succeed in the next 5 – 10 years as they enter the workforce. These studies and reports clearlyshow that there is an immediate need to evaluate creative thinking capability of school students and help them hone it to its fullest potential. Thisalso got us, Team Kidovators, thinking and focused on finding more about the state of Creativity & Creative Thinking in the Indian Education System. We surveyed 1000 individuals across 10 cities & towns of India comprising of top corporates, school educators, students and their parents in oureffort to find out about what each stakeholder’s thoughts are on creativity.
corporates surveyed said that Creative Thinking will be an important skill they will
seek in their recruitment process
parents said that present day education system is not fostering creative thinking
among students

While every Corporate agreed that creativity will be important for graduates in their recruitment process, 3 out of 5 parents believe that educationsystem is not fostering creativity among students. A majority of educators too believe the same and cited the lack of resources, tools and programsas the biggest bottleneck for helping students hone creativity. All the research helped us understand that honing student creativity is critical inbuilding a robust future human resource and a program building creative thinking capabilities must be built around school students.
These were our key findings from the Sylvant Advisors – GyanLab report on Creativity & Indian Education System:

What is CREATIVITY & CREATIVE THINKING QUOTIENT?One does not have to be a genius to be creative, and being trained for creativity is possible too. Kidovators aims to assess the Creative ThinkingQuotient (CTQ), which is an index of the creative potential for participating students. CTQ is arrived at by calculating a series of scores obtained bystudents on various assessments, tasks and activities designed to measure creativity. This whole product is built on the foundation of well researchedtheories and concepts in creative thinking.
The earliest theory on creativity was conceptualized by J P Guilford, who said creativity isn't one single concept but it is a category. Torrance built onthis concept and the first creativity tests were administered in 1958.
These theories hypothesize that creativity has four primary components to it:
FLUENCY
The total number of interpretable, meaningful, and
relevant ideas generated in response to the stimulus.
ORIGINALITY FLEXIBILITY ELABORATION
The statistical rarity of the responses.
The number of different categories of relevant
responses.
The amount of detail in the responses.
All of these can be measured by tasks designed to elicit responses to these four components of creativity. Some such tasks are Unusual Uses (to listthe unusual uses of an inanimate object), Impossible Task (to list the number of impossible tasks), Consequences Task (to be able to narrate theconsequences of a situation), Just Suppose Task (to predict the possible outcomes when a variable is introduced), Situations Task (to predict possiblesolutions for dystopian situations), Common Problems Task, Improvement Task, Imaginative Stories Task (to narrate a very exciting & interestingstory), Cow Jumping Problem (to illustrate the consequences of a cow jumping over the moon).
Kidovators through its product and process aims to enhance creativity in children. The need to be creative and unique is especially important intoday’s world with more than eight billion people, all of them striving to be their own individuals.
Kidovators 2017 is ‘India’s Biggest Creative Thinking Olympiad’ with the ambition of building an ecosystem that enables over a million students toperform at their creative best over the next decade in order to make them a successful human resource that fuels India’s national growth. The primary reason of building an ecosystem is that Creative Thinking is not an one-off topic and cannot be honed in students through only a fewinteractions and touch points. We are proud to present Kidovators 2017 is as a holistic platform that will work with students throughout theacademic year through offline Creativity Olympiad and online platform ensuring a balanced growth in hand with their academic progress.
