Mr Gareth Leechman
Arndell Anglican College offers its students a wide variety of opportunities, one such
opportunity is the European Tour which occurs every two years. We have commenced
planning for the 2018 tour and an information night will be held on Monday 27th March at
7.30pm in the John Lambert Performing Arts Centre. In 2018 we intend to explore Paris, the
Western Front Battlefields, Ypres and in the next tour we plan to visit Germany and parts of
Austria as we explore Cold War and Nazi Germany. This tour has now been in operation for
the past several years and has become an important part of the educational fabric that is
Arndell Anglican College. I look forward to seeing the next tour in operation.
It is also that time of the term to acknowledge the hard work of our sports coaches! We are
now coming to the end of the summer season in the HZSA and several of our teams made it
through to the final series. Well done to all students for their involvement and the staff for their
coaching efforts, without their support our teams could not participate in the competition. I look
forward to the winter season when more students and staff will engage in the next set of
competitions.
Also, I would like to let the College Community know that Mrs Carolyn Anslow, who has been
unwell all of this term, will be leaving us at the end of this term. Mrs Anslow has made a
significant contribution to the life of this College and her decision to leave was largely family
based as she relocates to Queensland to be with her parents. We have been able to secure
Mr Daniel Pugliese as her replacement. Mr Pugliese has over twenty years of teaching
experience, several of those as an HSC marker and lives locally. We look forward to having
Mr Pugliese as part of the life of the College.

Rev. Jeremy Clark
The Bible
In the last few weeks a number of significant events have happened to celebrate 200 years since the Bible Society
was formed in Australia. One involved a combined celebration which was live streamed across the nation. The Bible
Society vision is to see all people engaged with the Bible in a language they can understand, in a format they can
use, and at a price they can afford. They desire people to meet the God who created the world as he is revealed in
his son found in the Bible. This message has been saving people for 2000 years and continues to do so today in
Australia.
At the same time, our society struggles with the message contained in this book. The moral standards of Christians,
accepted and then later tolerated, now meet with scorn and derision. The Bible Society tried to show how a civilised
conversation could happen with people on opposing sides of the current marriage debate. I have friends on both sides
of this debate who responded very positively, seeing it as a positive demonstration of those in disagreement listening
respectfully to each other.
Unfortunately, the pressure on social media was intense with products being boycotted and derision towards those
involved. Is this a reflection of our society? A society that struggles with open discussion? A society that seeks to shut
down debate where a particular view is disagreed with? A society that has lost touch with the book that has shaped
millions of lives?
I would hope not. The Bible has arguably been the most significant book to contribute to our society, we have a lot to
be thankful for. Glenn Davies argued persuasively for the impact of the Bible in his talk on the day of celebration. I
commend it to you as worth watching. It reminds me of the importance of what we do at Arndell. We seek to help
students understand the Bible for themselves, to have the ability to read it on their own.
Let me encourage you to consider the Bible’s message or even check out what your child is learning each week in
class about the Bible.

Performing Arts @ Arndell Mrs Michelle Wilson
The talented and dedicated cast of Arndell’s Senior School musical have
been working very hard over the past few weeks during their lunch time, after
school and weekend rehearsal workshops.
This year Arndell will be presenting the extremely quirky and comical musical
– Little Shop of Horrors. The music, composed by Alan Menken (Beauty and
the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act) is in the style of early 1960s Rock and
Roll, Doo-wop and early Motown and includes several toe tapping tunes,
including the title song, "Skid Row (Downtown)", "Somewhere That's Green",
and "Suddenly, Seymour".
The musical is based on the original low-budget 1960’s black comedy film The Little Shop of Horrors and pays
homage to the cheesy B-grade horror films of the time. Audiences are encouraged to look beyond its strange and
nonsensical plot, as the musical also presents a significant underlying message inspired by Faustian legend. Little
Shop of Horrors exposes the consequences for characters who surrender moral integrity in order to achieve power
and success and whispers caution to the audience to be “careful what you wish for”.
The musical tells the tale of Mr Mushnik and his failing florist business on Skid Row. One day, Mushnik’s young and
enthusiastic employee, Seymour Krelborn, convinces him to put his newly acquired “strange and interesting plant”
front and centre in the shop window. From that moment on, the lives of these florists are changed forever.
Little Shop of Horrors is a musical theatre cult classic that has it all: catchy songs, witty dialogue, good and evil
characters, dance numbers and even a blood thirsty plant!
Arndell’s production will be playing at the end of Term 2 (June 15, 16 & 17) and is sure to be a sell-out. Information
regarding ticket purchase will be published next term.

From the Junior School Library Mrs Deborah Sharvell
A big thank you to all our parents and students that came to support our Book Fair.
We managed to sell just over $6,000 worth of books and merchandise.
With the commission that we receive from this we will be able to buy some new
Games and Resources for our Library.
Thank you to all the staff and our Year 6 helpers that were able to volunteer some of
their valuable time to help out.
Jenson Perry from 6W made a fantastic “Clifford” and carried out his duties of our
friendly Big Red Dog with great enthusiasm.
Food Tech @ Arndell Mrs Dorrianne Paroz
Year 9 Food Technology students have been studying about Aboriginal foods and how they have been incorporated
into contemporary cuisine. Students were required to select an Aboriginal food and make a recipe which used their
chosen food. Recipes ranged from crocodile skewers, lemon myrtle cupcakes, wattle seed banana bread, kangaroo
steak with raspberries, kangaroo burgers with sweet potato chips. Below are some of the meals prepared.
