Dear Church Family,
As a parent of children that are still in school, August marks the beginning of a new school year. August
begins a new season for our children for learning, making friends, and playing sports. Although most of us are
not in school anymore, August can mark the beginning of a new season for us as well. It can be a new season for
learning, making friends, and being active in God’s mission. We can continue to learn as we gather in small
groups to study the Bible. If you haven’t joined a Sunday School class then I strongly encourage you to do so.
That small group gathering at 9:45am on Sundays is one of the best ways to learn. I also encourage you to join
us on Wednesday evenings. We gather in the Social Hall for a meal at 5:30pm and then for prayer and Bible
study at 6:15pm. Starting August 7th we will resume our study in Systematic Theology. August can mark the
beginning for a new season of learning for all of us.
August can also mark the beginning for a new season of making friends. Over the past few weeks I’ve
been challenging you to make friends with those around you who don’t follow Jesus. Look for ways to show
them the love of God. Pray for an opportunity to tell them about Jesus. This can also be a new season for
developing Christian friendships. Joining a Sunday School class is one of the best ways to build friendships with
other Christians. In addition to Sunday School, we are going to be launching what we call Community Groups
in the next few months. A Community Group is group of people that commit to gather together on the fourth
Sunday of every month. The purpose of the Community Group is to help our church members and guests
deepen their relationships with one another. The Community Group get-togethers will range from gathering for
dinner at someone’s house or restaurant to attending a Green Jackets’ baseball game to meeting somewhere for
dessert. The options are limitless but the purpose is to get to know one another better. If you would like to be in
a Community Group, you will have the opportunity to fill out a Community Group card in the next several
weeks. After a few weeks of making the cards available we will create the groups and begin meeting together. I
encourage you to join one of these groups and allow August to mark the beginning of a new season of making
friends!
Lastly, August can mark a season of renewed zeal for being active in God’s mission. We can become
more intentional in sharing our faith. We can become more involved in one of the many ministries of our
church. We can take a step of faith and try something we haven’t tried before. Whatever that may look like for
you, I challenge you to allow August to mark a season of renewed zeal for being active in God’s mission.

August, already! Seems just yesterday that spring was in the
air with Master's Golf happening along
with dogwoods and azaleas. School was
winding down and almost over while
vacations were being planned. Well, that
was then and this is AUGUST!
School will begin in a few short weeks and schedules will
be made. Here at The Hill Baptist Church, we are looking
forward (musically speaking) to beginning afresh our
choir and welcoming back everyone, especially our
Augusta University college students. We will again have
the opportunity to minister to and be ministered by these
bright, energetic and talented students. Our music
ministry to these students depends on the faithful
economic support of church members who give up and
above their tithes and offerings to make this ministry
happen. Last year we were able to minister to four young
ladies, Quinn, Tedra, Katie and Daiton. This year we
would like to add a male student if possible. Won't you
pray that God will provide through your gifts a way to
minister to these students?
Christmas is coming soon! My wife and I have been
watching Hallmark's Christmas in July on television. We
are ready for the birthday celebration to begin. Our Adult
Choir needs congregational members who enjoy singing
and will share their talent with others and most
importantly Jesus Christ, himself! There are no auditions
and no embarrassing moments. The choir room door is
always open and you will be welcomed with a smile and
an encouraging tune!
Our blessings have been innumerable this year already.
We have some more wonderful musical holidays to
celebrate together. Labor Day, Reformation, All Saints
Day, Thanksgiving, Advent and of course, Christmas.
This summer has been full of worship music surprises
and blessings. Our guest singers and musicians have
given us a renewed sense of God's presence in our
worship services through hymns and gospel songs. Share
your joy and blessings with others with whom you work,
play and socialize. Many of them are unchurched and
searching for a "belonging" place. That can be The Hill
Baptist when you invite them. Invite more than once and
your joy will be greater!
Well, I've run out of space before words! See you in
church on Wednesdays and Sundays. Check this column
out next month for more Christmas news!

It has been a fun and exciting summer with The Hill
Youth! We started off by welcoming two fabulous
summer interns, Mark White and Alex Bagby and
quickly put them to work helping with Vacation Bible
School. Our goal for VBS was to mix fun summer
fellowship with serving our community. A week after
VBS ended we left for a much-anticipated trip to Myrtle
Beach for Student Life Camp. It was exciting to see
how the camp speakers challenged the students that
their reason for everything should be glorifying God
and sharing his love and truth with others...and how our
students responded. It tied in beautifully with The Hill
Baptist’s yearly theme of “Evangelism”, and my prayer
is that each Sunday as we continue to talk about how to
learn evangelism from Jesus, the seeds planted this
summer will continue to grow. The fun didn’t stop in
Myrtle Beach…we have continued our Wednesday
night Youth meetings, gone roller skating, roller coaster
riding at Carowinds, and will be finishing the summer
with a Youth lake day! It will be hard to say goodbye
to summer but we are looking forward an exciting
Fall…and some cooler weather!
Thank you for your continued support and prayers for
our Youth!
