From the Bridge Coordinator’s desk Marge Desmery is chairing our next sectional tournament December 10-12. This tournament will feature a 3-session bracketed knockout event, beginning Friday afternoon with semi-finals Saturday morning and the finals on Saturday afternoon. Get
your teams together or contact Phyllis Carlson 299-5263 for help with partnerships. The Annual Meeting will be held on Monday, December 13, at 12:15 p.m. We have an excellent slate of nominees for the Board of Governors
openings, including: Don Brinkerhoff, Audrey Fetter, Griff McClellan, John McClenathan, and Beverly Taylor. Please come and exercise your right to vote. You will be rewarded with additional masterpoints, as the game will be an Upgraded Club Championship. Thank you to Debbie Drury, who ran a very successful 0-299er Sectional November 13-14. We will have another silver point sectional for our limited players on March 13-14. Mark your calendars. Please let Debbie know if you would be willing to chair or co-chair this tournament. Debbie Drury is planning a great Holiday Party for Wednesday, December 15, at 11:45 a.m. There will be an upgraded club championship in conjunction with the party. Thank you to Beverly Taylor, Sally Corcoran and Jane Davis for decorating the Club for the holidays. It looks great! Our morning Open Pair game will resume on
Thursday, January 6, at 9:00 a.m. Please support our once a week morning open game. Continued on page 4
From the president’s desk Well, it’s December already, and 2010 is about to become history. I believe history will show that 2010 was a very good year for VBBC. We’ve had no hurricanes, our roof doesn’t leak, and our A/C units are functioning properly. Particular thanks to Jay Prilliman for his efforts to keep our building in good shape. Our membership is over 800 making us the largest member owned club in the universe. We’ve made some significant changes inside the building thanks to the generosity of our members. Our balance sheet is in good shape and is carefully monitored by Don Brinkerhoff with help from Charlie Kline. Unlike President Obama’s staff and the congress, our staff and the Board of Governors are working together very well. There are a few things that we would like to add to the club if any of you are in the mood to help financially. The significant items include a new game director’s desk on the main floor, an awning for the main entrance, and carpeting in the main playing area. These items will only be done if we can get donations to pay for them. Again, unlike President Obama’s policy, we’re only going to do these shovel ready items if we can pay for them now. One last thing for 2010, is to mention that the smooth operation of our club doesn’t happen by accident. Special thanks to Candy, Kim, directors, teachers, cashiers, and all the volunteers for their continuing efforts.
Wishing you all the best for this season.

More Volunteer Mentors Needed!!! The 2011 program is in need of a few more Life Masters to mentor this year. Also, bridge players with 100 - 300 masterpoints are requested to volunteer to mentor a 0-20 player. I would like to complete the matching of the novices/mentors by Dec. 10, so players will have a chance to schedule their games and begin playing by the beginning of the new year. Please read the program guidelines and sign up at the Club or by emailing [email protected].

Family Homeless Center wish list The Family Homeless Center, our club's official charity, has a wish list of items that the Center and residents can always find useful. Here are some of the items: sheets, pillows, towels, face cloths, paper towels and toilet paper, trash bags, sandwich bags, hand soap, dishwashing soap, laundry detergents, all sizes of diapers, hand sanitizer, vacuum cleaner, arts and crafts supplies, school supplies, markers scissors, Post-It-Notes and day planners. Club members who are staying in hotels are reminded to collect personal care items and drop them off at the club. We have designated an area of the club behind the room divider screens at the back of the playing area where donations of clothing, canned/boxed food and personal care items can be deposited. In December, we will be collecting gifts cards and monetary donations for our annual Christmas gift to the Center. If you wish to drop off any of the above items yourself, the Center is located at 720 4th St between Old Dixie Highway and Rte 1. The Center will give you a tax deductible receipt for your items. Thank you all for supporting this worthwhile charity.
