The Commvault® Licensing Framework
Overview
Commvault®
Software is broken down into three primary categories;
• Software that resides on production systems, manages the system appropriately, and captures/moves data (Manage) • Software that is used to store copies of data and provide access to those copies (Protect) • Software that is used to connect to and provide enhanced value to the data that has been stored by Commvault (Activate) Commvault Licensing uses this set of concepts as the framework for license classification and articulation. As new products and features are introduced, this framework will be used to determine how that product/feature is licensed.
License Program Overview Commvault offers three primary licensing models that provide a best fit for all of our customers’ varied needs. Each Commvault Commcell can be
licensed through one of the following license options.
Commvault® Platform Subscription
Customer Profile: Enterprise Customers with large Data Footprints, requiring a data storage pool of greater than 150TB.
Scalability: Built for big data, Software Defined Data Services & very large backup. Fits Scale-Out architectures well.
Competitive: Progressive licensing that meets modern infrastructure requirements. Buy what you need as you grow.
Financial: Costs scale based on storage utilized and clients protected. Subscription nature allows for lower up-front cost.
Flexibility: Flexible Client License rights mitigate needs for swaps.
License Management: Subscription license model with periodic license reconciliation. Reconciliation allows for dynamic changes within the environment mid-term.
Customer Profile: All Segments, best suited for customers with High Retention Requirements, and varied backup approaches.
Scalability: Costs are not built for hyper data growth and low client/high data scenarios.
Competitive: Matches with competitive solutions with similarly broad software portfolios
Financial: Higher price point due to configuration flexibility provided.
Flexibility: Complete discretion on configuration without additional license requirements. Measured simply by data protected.
License Management: Hard locked and enforced on data consumption. Buy ahead of the consumption need.
Commvault® Capacity Licensing Commvault® Solution Set Program
Customer Profile: Single use case, limited data footprint.
Scalability: Limited to 150TB of Commvault-managed Disk/Cloud Storage.
Competitive: Built to stack up against point solutions in a competitive way.
Financial: Typically lowest cost of entry to Commvault Portfolio.
Flexibility: Only offers targeted licensing, limited swap/exchange options.
License Management: Capped and managed through Commvault License Key systems.

When emergencies happen, you need to execute a Disaster Recovery Plan. Commvault helps you automate that plan, and can help you make
that plan include an on-demand Cloud DR strategy. Don’t pay for Disaster Recovery Resources that you may or may not ever use. Let
Commvault automate your failover to the Cloud, and only pay for the Cloud DR Resources when an actual Data Disaster occurs.
Seamlessly extend your datacenter to the cloud, and provide the same SLA, insight and control of your data and infrastructure resources
wherever they live. Use Commvault to deliver the same level of security and governance that you have come to expect with On-Premise
deployments, and avoid the risks of being locked into a single cloud provider by using software that can manage data, no matter the cloud
provider.
Using the ability to write to Cloud Providers, Commvault also makes it easy to move systems and data into full Cloud Compute Instances
without varied proprietary cloud migration tools. Given that all data is not made equal, several different technical approaches can be used to
best solve the problem.
Commvault builds the ability to write to Cloud Storage Targets natively into all its core products. Leverage Enterprise-Class Dedupe to write
data effectively into a Cloud Storage Library without the need for costly and cumbersome hardware appliances. With broad support for all the
leading Cloud Storage Providers, you don’t have to lock yourself in and can store and manage data in the cloud (or several clouds) just as you
do on Premise.

VM BACKUP AND RECOVERY SOLUTIONS
COMMVAULT® SOLUTION SET LICENSING Commvault® Solution Sets provide purchasing flexibility to meet your unique needs. They can be deployed individually or as
part of a comprehensive data protection and information management solution. Solution Set Commcells carry a 150TB limit on a Disk/Cloud Storage when File/App/NAS solutions are included.
ABOUT VM BACKUP AND RECOVERY SOLUTIONS Protect your virtual environment. Enables VM administrators and end users to build, protect and optimize virtualized
and cloud infrastructures. It supports VMware, Hyper-V, and many other popular hypervisors, and provides the ability to
backup, archive, and recover to over 25 cloud storage providers.
Flexible deployment options. Start with basic VM backup and recovery deployed on a per socket or per VM basis and
expand over time as your needs grow, including VM Provisioning and VM Archive support.
Instant Live Recovery Features.
Live Browse File Restore – Perform granular file and folder level recovery without collecting metadata during the backup
process. Live Mount – Power up a virtual machine directly from the backup disk target without needing to restore it.
Live Recovery – Make VMs immediately available from the backup disk target while a background process copies the virtual
machine disk back to the production environment
MAJOR BENEFITS OF THE VM BACKUP & RECOVERY ADVANCED PACKAGE: Cloud Connector — The ability to backup, archive, and recover to over 51 cloud storage providers.
IntelliSnap — Snapshots protect data quickly and efficiently while offering frequency settings to help reduce potential data
loss. Recovery takes minutes compared to hours/days for tape & disk recovery.
Self Service — Users can recover their own data from their web console as well as manage their settings to determine the
location of data. Access can be given to multiple tenants as well as an end user.
LICENSING THE WAY YOU WANT! Buying per socket means that there is no limitation on the number of VMs you can backup (supported on premise
Hypervisors only). Buying per VM means that there is a set number of VMs you can backup and retain, but there are no socket considerations.
Step-Up licensing allows movement from Foundation into Advanced as needs and requirements of the environment change.
VM Archive and Application Options can be added to on top of both per VM and per Socket Protection Models.

COMMVAULT® SOLUTION SET LICENSING Commvault® Solution Sets provide purchasing flexibility to meet your unique needs. They can be deployed individually

ABOUT BACKUP & RECOVERY SOLUTIONS FOR FILE & APPLICATIONS Protect Your Environment. Go outside your hypervisor. For data and systems that remain outside your virtual footprint, don’t
sacrifice functionality and features. Commvault’s industry leading Intelligent Data Agents (iDA’s) provide enhanced functionality to
protect what you want, when and how you want it. With intuitive and granular recovery options, your data is always at your
fingertips.
Superior Application Protection. Applications have different Backup and Recovery needs than basic file systems, and all
applications and databases are different. Commvault offers a wide range of application agents to support many different workloads.
Whether it’s your Active Directory Server or an Oracle Database on Unix, Commvault has an answer.
Handle that hyper-critical VM a little differently. Don’t settle for VM-Level protection if the methodology doesn’t fit the need.
For that high transaction, or extremely large database, get beyond the limitations of what a VM-Level Backup can do, and use the
built-in application intelligence to your advantage!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Can I mix these products with other Commvault Solution Sets? Absolutely! These products are meant to augment the
other solution sets (such as VM Protection, Mailbox Archive, and Endpoint).
What if I already own Capacity Licensing to cover my physical environment, can I add these in? No, if Capacity-based
licensing is present, which offers a greater degree of flexibility and capacity expansion, these solution sets would not be able to be
added. Incremental licensing for Physical environments should be obtained under the Capacity program only.
Are there any limitations to the Solution Set packages? From a client feature perspective, these solutions include traditional
streaming backup and Archive/OnePass® features. These software packages are built to allow for infrastructure consumption to
support up to 150TB of Data in the Commvault Data Platform, on either Disk or Cloud. IntelliSnap® may be added on a per-client
basis.
I’m moving a lot of my infrastructure to the Cloud. Will this solution work there? Yes it will! Commvault fully embraces
cloud adoption, and in fact, these solutions can be leveraged to help you get there more easily. Physical environments can be
protected locally, copied to a cloud provider, and recovered directly into a provisioned cloud instance. For more advanced
automation and other cloud enhancements, look to Commvault’s Advanced Solutions for Cloud to make your journey easier.

Mailbox and Personal Cloud Solution
COMMVAULT® SOLUTION SET LICENSING Commvault® Solutions Set provide purchasing flexibility to meet your unique needs. They can be deployed individually or
as part of a comprehensive data protection and information management solution. Solution Set Commcells carry a 150TB
limit on a Disk/Cloud Storage when File/App/NAS solutions are included.
ABOUT MAILBOX AND PERSONAL CLOUD SOLUTION
Commvault’s single, unified data management platform supports detailed protection and archiving policies for any email
environment — including cloud email solutions like Microsoft Office 365 and Google Mail. With Commvault software, you automate email data management, even as volumes continue to grow and sensitive data begins to be stored in personal
cloud storage accounts like Microsoft OneDrive and Google Drive. Take advantage of proactive data compliance and legal discovery, and optimize storage using OnePass to save money and time.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MAILBOX AND PERSONAL CLOUD SOLUTION? eDiscovery and compliance made easy. Commvault solutions streamline eDiscovery across data silos, making
data accessible via a single, comprehensive platform. Our intuitive self-service search experience was built to allow
legal teams to collect data and execute holds and reviews without IT department intervention, accelerating results
for early case assessments.
Bring the email explosion under control. Growing email volumes make it hard to know which email data has
true business value and which is just taking up valuable storage space. Commvault software helps cut the cost, risk
and complexity of email archiving with user-defined content-based retention policies — using criteria like file name,
type, user/group, keyword and Exchange classification. Instead of the old “keep everything” approach, content-
based retention ensures you archive only what matters to the business and helps bring down the cost of retention. Cloud email, optimized. With Commvault, you can take full advantage of the cloud-based email capabilities of
Microsoft Office 365. As a Microsoft Gold Certified partner and 2014 Microsoft Server Platform Partner of the Year
Award winner, we work closely with Microsoft to develop and test value-added solutions. Our Microsoft Office 365
support enhances your ability to archive data efficiently and meet regulatory and compliance requirements — with
simplified search, continuous availability and easy self-service. Capitalize on the cloud. Virtually unlimited cloud storage is a big plus for enterprise email archiving, but concerns
about accessibility, privacy and control continue to hold some organizations back. Our data-management platform
lets you choose whatever cloud approach best meets your access, privacy and other privacy needs: on-premises,
cloud or hybrid. You get the flexibility and scalability to adapt and scale as your business needs change.

Platform Agreement Licensing Model
Platform Licensing Program COMMVAULT PLATFORM LICENSING Commvault® Platform Licensing provides a program in which customers can leverage flexible licensing to purchase the products and features they need. It includes access to technology such as scale-out, software defined storage and the ability to protect additional workloads including cloud. The structure is easily understandable, aligns to OPEX spend, and includes all the Commvault® Data Infrastructure software required to secure the data as you see fit.
WHAT IS PLATFORM LICENSING?
Feature Focused Consumption Model. This strategic program is designed to take advantage of the common
infrastructure offered within the Commvault Software Portfolio, while managing finite but varied client software
requirements. Start off with the core data management solutions bundle like virtual, file, application or mailbox
and endpoint then add on advanced data center solutions easily.
Large Data Sets and Extended Retention Needs. Platform Licensing is the enterprise licensing structure that builds
on Commvault’s mid-market point solution framework. It provides the same market leading technology, but with
a focus on flexibility and scale to provide a competitive price point while making it simple to do business with
Commvault.
BEST USE CASES FOR THE PLATFORM MODEL Open and Standards-based. Helping customers better leverage data, improve IT operations, and enabling third party innovation.
Low Client Count. Where traditional capacity licensing is not a viable fit, now Platform Licensing provides a price point
that is very attractive for these use cases.
Targeted Software Costs. Pay for the software being utilized, instead of a pre-determined bundle that may not be the
right fit. Buy smart! Maximize the value, minimize the shelfware.
Big Data. Low Retention. Digital Repositories and other large data workloads often do not warrant long term
retention on disk. Use Platform licensing to your advantage when normal backup expectations no longer apply.
Tape Out Licensing. Tape Licensing in the Commvault Data Platform is measured by the number of Tape Drives under
Commvault Management.
Flexibility. Deploy solutions as needed in a subscription framework. Freedom to add agents for growth and reconcile
during annual review schedules. Licensing may also be removed and reduced at the end of the commitment term.

Distributed Application (Big Data) Licensing
COMMVAULT® PLATFORM LICENSING Commvault® Platform Licensing provides a program in which customers can granularly choose and purchase the
products and features they need, when the benefits of a broader capacity-based license bundle do not effectively apply
to their Commvault Use Case. The Platform is easily understandable, fits business goals, and includes all the
Commvault® Data Infrastructure software required to secure the data as you see fit.
WHAT IS THE BIG DATA SOLUTION?
Start with the Platform. Commvault offers a world-class Data Management Platform that efficiently maintains copies
of your expansive file content, and provides several options for access and recovery. The software layer allows your
data to reside in the best location to suit your needs, whether that’s On-Prem Disk, Tape, or even Cloud Storage.
Scale Out. Use commodity hardware of your choosing to scale the platform wide for the highest resiliency and optimal
throughput. Commvault’s Scaleout Storage Interface allows you to easily create and provision more nodes as the need
arises.
Manage Centrally, Distribute Collection. As these nodes scale wide, the control of your application remains
consolidated. Deploy file clients where they are needed to collect the data, and control the entire set through a
Commvault Distributed Application Client for Hadoop, Greenplum, GPFS, or NFS.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Can I mix these products with other Commvault License Programs? Given the dramatic differences between
Big Data requirements and traditional Backup Workloads, a new license program has been developed to provide
customers the ability to protect Big Data applications with a structure that better resonates with the needs than
traditional Commvault License Models. Therefore, these solutions may only be licensed in a separate Commcell®,
apart from the more traditional Capacity Licensing Workloads
I own excess Capacity Licensing, can I use that to protect this data? Commvault firmly believes that in
order to best support and maintain a Big Data environment, the licensing costs must accurately reflect the nature of
the environment, and Capacity Licensing, which is designed for Traditional Backup Workloads, does not fit the bill. In
order to keep our customers on a sustainable growth path, a Capacity Conversion Program is available to best utilize
a customer’s purchased licensing, and maximize the investment that has already been made with Commvault.

Capacity Agreement Licensing Model
Data Protection Capacity License Bundles
COMMVAULT® CAPACITY LICENSING Commvault® Capacity Licensing (CLA) provides purchasing flexibility to meet your unique needs. These licenses can be
deployed individually or as part of a comprehensive data protection and information management solution.
ABOUT DATA PROTECTION BUNDLES
Front End Terabyte (FET). These usage-based bundles are measured by the Front End Terabyte (FET) capacity being protected. FETs are the total amount of data being backed up before deduplication. Data is measured by the most recent
full (or synthetic full) backup performed.
Protect a variety of clients. DPF and DPA offer a variety of data protection and information management options to
meet different use cases, while Data Protection Enterprise additionally includes advanced reporting options
Commvault OnePass™. Create a zero footprint archive with Commvault OnePass™, converged backup, archive and reporting from a single operation.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Can DPF, DPA, and DPE be mixed? Yes! Customers who wish to use basic File, VM and NAS protection, but do not
wish to leverage Hardware Snapshot integration or make use of Commvault’s Application Intelligent Data Agents can
purchase DPF. If needs change, and Application Awareness and/or Hardware Snapshots become a need, DPA can be added to cover the new workloads. Customers can mix and match capacity levels as necessary to best fit their
environment.
What are the added benefits available in Data Protection Advanced?
In addition to the 1TB of file/NAS protection afforded by DPF, DPA adds in full use of Commvault’s Intelligent Data Agents for Applications. DPA users can protect any applications currently supported by Commvault within the capacity footprint
purchased. DPA additionally provides Data Protection Snapshot (DPS) and Replication (DPSR) capabilities. What are some Common Add-Ons with DPF and DPA? These Features are also included with DPE.
The Vault Tracker® Enterprise feature helps you to manage media (tape) that are removed from a library and stored
in offsite locations. It provides chain of custody tracking and an Iron Mountain plug-in.
Premium Operations Reporting offers users access to the full set of Metrics Reporting, Data Analytics and custom reports features from the software store.
When would I use Data Protection Foundation vs. File Archive Enterprise for File System Data?
Data that is protected using the OnePass technology is counted towards the Archive Capacity Meter, which is supplied using FAE. For users who do traditional file backups without using OnePass, and would additionally like the option to
protect data at a Virtual Server level, DPF is the best choice.

INTELLISNAP® CAPACITY LICENSES
COMMVAULT® CAPACITY LICENSING AGREEMENTS Commvault® Capacity Licensing Agreements (CLA) provide purchasing flexibility to meet your unique needs. They can be
deployed individually or as part of a comprehensive data protection and information management solution.
ABOUT INTELLISNAP® TECHNOLOGY
Innovation. IntelliSnap® technology orchestrates application-aware hardware snapshots, replication and recovery to make data assets fully available instantly. Our solution supports the widest range of functionality and hardware arrays in the
industry without the need for custom scripting.
Keep Existing Backup System. Organizations DO NOT need to change their existing backup system to deploy IntelliSnap.
New Storage Purchase. Making a new storage hardware purchase? It’s easy to add IntelliSnap which is a fraction of the cost of the storage purchase and allows for better operational efficiency. Since IntelliSnap technology integrates with all the
major storage arrays you can easily manage snapshots in disparate environments and avoid vendor storage lock-in.
Application Recovery. Application and database owners (DBAs) need rapid access to multiple recovery points via
snapshots and clones. IntelliSnap technology provides secure, automated, and easy access to data with consolidated
reporting
A SNAPSHOT OF INTELLISNAP® BENEFITS Speed of protection. Application-aware hardware snapshots only takes minutes vs. hours for regular backup.
Frequency of protection. Users can determine their own personal frequency settings to protect their systems as
often as they want. Existing backup products typically only protect your data once every 24 hours, but with
IntelliSnap you can take hundreds of snapshots every day, which significantly lowers your potential loss of data.
Speed of recovery. IntelliSnap technology recovers applications within minutes by orchestrating the data movement
from within the same storage device. Traditional backup methods pull data over the network and take considerably
longer, often many hours.
Ease of management. IntelliSnap technology standardizes protection and recovery operations across all supported
hardware platforms. Learn it once and apply it across all your storage arrays.
Easier disaster recovery. IntelliSnap technology supports snapshots in array-based replication scenarios that
streamlines disaster recovery.

Data Infrastructure through a Solution Set, Capacity, or Data Platform License Agreement.
BENEFITS OF SEARCH – LOOK NO FURTHER.. Hold just the information that matters. Commvault’s highly intelligent and easy-to-use software lets you hold exactly the information required across any system, device or data type — and store it in a single, accessible repository.
Claim the early advantage. Commvault lets you carry out early case assessments — narrowing down and refining your data sets so you hand over only the information your external legal team needs with full assurance of accuracy, validity and completeness.
Evolution is easier with Commvault. If you’re already using Commvault for backup, archive and recovery, adding eDiscovery capabilities to your platform is seamless and simple. Even if you haven’t been indexing your data from day one, our software can go back at any point in time and automatically index all your enterprise data to make you search-ready and eDiscovery-prepared.
Content Based Search. Advanced options to refine search criteria and allow results to be reviewed, refine the search further, add to review set, or put on hold.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Do I need to License both Mailboxes (or End Users) and Objects? No, if the object counts supplied to you through the
Mailbox and Endpoint Licenses are sufficient to cover your search environment, no additional Object Licensing is required. If, however, your index farm carries more search objects than have been granted, a supply of Object Licenses would need to be purchased to increase the licensed count.
What is the Case Manager Support for Windows File System Agent? Case Manager is a feature in Compliance Search that enables compliance officers and legal teams to collect and retain electronically stored information for electronic discovery based on individual persons. Windows File System Agent is required here.
I don’t want to index anything other than File Servers on my network. What should I buy? In this case, Per-Object Licensing would be the proper measurement.
Does it matter what type of data I am storing? Commvault provides the capability to back up and archive data from a wide variety of sources. For example, Data center servers, end user laptops, or file system data from shared network storage devices. Commvault can ingest the data into its data repository and run content indexing operations to enable users to find and retrieve necessary data.
What if I already own a Search License? Generic Search Object licensing has been augmented with additional license bundles for Mailbox Search and Endpoint Search. Customers who own Search Object Licenses may continue to consume on a per-object model (using additional Object Licenses for growth), or may exchange Search Object licenses for commensurate Mailbox/Endpoint Compliance Licenses based on observed usage levels. Conversions will be undertaken when additional Search Object Capacity is required.

ACTIVE DISASTER RECOVERY SUITE
COMMVAULT® ADVANCED SOLUTIONS
Commvault® Advanced Solutions Licensing is designed to enhance and extract value from data managed in Commvault Data
Infrastructure through a Solution Set, Capacity, or Data Platform License Agreement.
ABOUT ACTIVE DISASTER RECOVERY LiveSync. Use Commvault software to backup your data on premise, and after completion, immediately (or on a schedule of
your choosing) recover that data to a Disaster Recovery Location, in a powered down state. Live Sync will keep your systems
synchronized after every incremental backup job, so that when you need them, they’re ready.
Automated Failover (Planned and Unplanned). Prepare your recovery plan in advance of any disaster so that Commvault
software brings up your systems in the proper order and priority. Live Sync Automation can also be used to test your DR
Readiness so that there are no more surprises when a disaster strikes.
Replicate to the Cloud (Cloud Disaster Recovery). If the Cloud is your Disaster Recovery preference, Commvault solutions
can get you there. Using the included Continuous Data Replication agents, ensure your most critical data is replicated in near -
real time to your cloud compute provider. Combine this with Commvault software’s industry leading ability to backup to cloud disk targets and you have the foundation for your Cloud Disaster Recovery Strategy.
NEVER A DISASTER WITH ACTIVE DR Are you able to move servers into the cloud or even between clouds? Business continuity is about data recovery,
but it is also about being able to move servers into the cloud, or even between clouds — using the same platform you are
using to move your data. This is a critical piece of a disaster recovery approach. Commvault provides end-to-end VM
backup, recovery and cloud management, enabling your IT staff to execute business continuity by running critical applications in the cloud.
How are current Commvault customers using our cloud solutions? Replacing on-premise tape and backup
infrastructure to mitigate cost and management overhead of tapes and disk. Users can retrieve their data without having to wait days for tapes to be retrieved from offsite storage with streamlined recovery processes.
Is a messy integration between multiple siloed disaster recovery solutions avoidable? Absolutely! Active DR
software seamlessly works across all platforms and technologies to provide you with more efficient and scalable cloud-
based recovery. The backup, replication and disaster recovery functionality is fully integrated across your entire IT
infrastructure, from your on-premises physical and virtual infrastructure all the way up to the public cloud.
What does the license include? Active Disaster Recovery Suite includes options for LiveSync based recovery for
supported hypervisors, as well as host-based replication options for synchronizing data into a Cloud Compute Environment.
