INTRODUCTION
RACHEL MONTGOMERY-YOUNGHRD Portfolio Director
Now in its 18th year, the HRD Summit provides the perfect platform for senior HR and business leaders to connect and learn, with global business leaders from a range of industries. The 2020 event will take place on the 4 – 5 February 2020, at the ICC in Birmingham.
As technology evolves, the world of work continues to shift. As HR and business leaders, you have the power to shape the success of the organisation with cutting-edge infrastructure and sustainable development.
We are now driving transformation in unprecedented environments – breaking conventional models and finding new ways to guide people through uncertainty and ambiguity.
Our audience are at the core of this pivotal movement. You have an opportunity to shape the future direction of work; the workforce; and the workplace – creating an agile vision for the future and revolutionising the way we do business.
Going beyond re-imaging current structures and processes, to establishing the business opportunities to make them a reality. We look forward to welcoming you the HRD Summit.

HEAR FROM OUR SUMMIT CHAIR
DANNY HARMERChief People Officer, METRO BANK
I was delighted to chair the 2019 HRD Summit and interact with so many wonderful people from in and around our profession.
The agenda for the two days was a brilliant mix of humanity and technology. Our opening keynote, Dr Rita McGrath challenged us to build organisations that were able to identify and respond quickly to changes in their environment; ‘snow melts from the edges’.
Culture was a popular theme running through many of the breakouts and discussions, with delegates keen to think about this important aspect of organisations and how to align culture to purpose.
The other key theme was the future of work and what digital means for businesses and their people. Our closing session from Josh Bersin on the future of work gave us all food for thought.
The three key takeaways for me were:
• We are part of a magnificent profession that has the mandate to shape the future of work – we should be proud
• Organisations need to be conscious… with a clear purpose and a culture that aligns to that purpose
• We have choice and control over the technology we build and how we apply it – this isn’t something that will be done to humanity.
See you all in 2020!

WHAT OUR DELEGATES HAD TO SAY
12Linkedin | @HRDCommunity #HRDSummitUK | www.hrdsummit.com
KEY FEATURES: MATCH MEETINGSWHAT ARE THEY:
• One-to-one consultative business conversations with expert solution providers
• The conversations are focused on your current HR challenges for the next 12-18 months.
• The meetings last between 15-20 minutes in the designated MATCH area
• They take place during a set-aside time within the Summit ensuring you don’t miss out on any networking opportunities or content
• Our bespoke algorithm will MATCH you with our experts based on your challenges
• The meetings are only scheduled in when both parties have accepted
• There is no set amount of meetings that you have to attend
• You have full control of your schedule
• Ultimately, you do not have to accept any meetings, however, it is just another opportunity for you to network with a new, innovative solution expert who can be beneficial for you
• By having meeting with solution experts who can advise on your current challenges you are able to use your attendance to benchmark industry experts and look for the latest innovations on the market.
“ HRD Summit as well as using the MATCH service. I can honestly say that MATCH was a great experience, providing tangible feedback and talking points for me to bring back to Mast-Jägermeister. The MATCH meetings provided opportunities to have detailed conversations about the challenges I currently face with a large number of interesting solution providers that I wouldn’t have necessarily met otherwise. It’s a great networking tool which allowed me to keep full control over my schedule from the very beginning.”
DR CLAUDIA ROHDE, Head of HR Development, MAST-JÄGERMEISTER

KEY FEATURES: MATCH MEETINGS
“ MATCH meetings are a great way to speak to a large number of experts in their field. They are short and sharp, meaning that they have to be very efficient and to the point. I would be interested in joining in the MATCH meetings again.”

KEY FEATURES: KEYNOTE SESSIONSEach year the keynote sessions set the tone for the rest of the Summit; delivering the thought leadership that will change the landscape of HR. The opening keynote, Rita McGrath delved into alternative organizational methods, for when hierarchy is not an option. She delivered thought provoking insight into how organisations should prioritise being change ready – and that means that not all decisions can come from the top. Other sessions, including Andrea Winfield, HRD Microsoft, Workday and Salesforce kept the momentum going across the two days, before we closed with a discussion on the future of HR. Led by the influential Josh Bersin, we reflected on the learnings of the last few days, and looked ahead at what the future holds for business and people leaders.
“ HR is more of a craft than a profession. You can’t go to school, read a book and learn how to do HR because theres too many things to do and its always changing. You need to continuously reskill and upskill HR professionals.”
JOSH BERSIN, Global Independant Analyst and Founder of Bersin by Deloitte

This year more than 100 delegates found themselves in the Birmingham Comedy Loft for an interactive, inspiring session on the art of engaging with your audience – something crucial for a successful business and a successful comedian! Led by Santosh Carvalho, Innovation Partner at Salesforce, and with support from Andy White, a local comedian, delegates explored how to succeed in developing an engaging narrative that creates trust and engagement with their workforce and attract new talent.
Santosh Carvalho is an Innovation Partner with Salesforce’s customer innovation team. He is focused on helping senior executives in large enterprises execute their digital transformation agenda by helping them research, design and experiment with their customer and employee experiences.
