boss of the executive
branch. He meets with a lot of people.
• The president is in charge of all the workers in the executive branch
• The president picks
the heads of departments
like education or defense.
CHIEF DIPLOMAT
• The president meets with leaders from many countries
• The president has state dinners to honor the leaders of other countries
• The president talks with other countries to keep peace and work with them on problems.
CHIEF OF STATE
• As the Chief of Statethe president represents our country here and in other lands
• He goes to funerals of important people
• He attends many ceremonies as a symbol of the United States
• The president gives awards to Americans who have done great things.
ECONOMIC LEADER
• The president works hard to see that there are enough good jobs for everyone.
• He tries to keep prices from going up and up
COMMANDER IN CHIEF
• The president is in charge of the army, navy, air force, marines and the coast guard.
• The president meets with the secretary of defense to make military decisions
• He gives the orders when there is a war.
• He makes sure our troops are well prepared and have everything they need in war
PARTY LEADER
• The president is a Republican or a Democrat. These are political parties.
• The President has influence over the way his political party thinks about problems in our country
• He makes speeches and tries to raise money for his party
