THE RINGING OF THE CHIMES
A three-fold ringing of three signifies the presence of the triune God: Creator, Christ, and Holy Spirit.

*CALL TO WORSHIP Rev. Kay Davis-Dudding
*ACOLYTES BRING THE LIGHT OF CHRIST INTO THE SANCTUARY
*PROCESSIONAL HYMN #61 We Gather Together Kremser
First published among songs celebrating the end of Spanish control of the Netherlands, this text’s blend of patriotism and piety has made it popular at (often ecumenical) Thanksgiving Day Services. The tune is named for the Viennese arranger whose male chorus popularized it.
*PRAYER OF INVOCATION Rev. Davis-Dudding
*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE #373 Give Thanks Henry Smith
Give thanks with a grateful heart; give thanks to the Holy One.
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son.
And now let the weak say, “I am strong”;
let the poor say, “I am rich,”
because of what the Lord has done for us. Give Thanks!
*WELCOME & PASSING THE PEACE Rev. Dr. Louise Barger
(Visitors & members, please register your attendance by filling out a yellow card from the pew rack and placing it in the offering bag this morning.)
We are invited to greet our nearest neighbors, extend our hand, and greet one another in the name of Christ.
(Please be seated.)

Reading & Proclaiming God’s Word
THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON Sue Sawyer
1 Chronicles 16:8-12: O give thanks to the LORD, call on his
name, make known his deeds among the peoples. Sing to him,
sing praises to him, tell of all his wonderful works. Glory in his
holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.
Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his presence continually.
Remember the wonderful works he has done, his miracles, and
the judgments he uttered.
Leader: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church. People: Thanks be to God!
THE PSALTER LESSON Sue Sawyer
Psalm 95: O come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful
noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence
with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of
praise! For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all
gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the
mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and the dry
land, which his hands have formed. O come, let us worship and
bow down, let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! For he is our
God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his
hand. O that today you would listen to his voice! Do not harden
your hearts, as at Meribah, as on the day at Massah in the
wilderness, when your ancestors tested me, and put me to the
proof, though they had seen my work. For forty years I loathed
that generation and said, “They are a people whose hearts go
astray, and they do not regard my ways.” Therefore in my anger I
swore, “They shall not enter my rest.”
THE NEW TESTAMENT EPISTLE LESSON Rev. David Coggins
Philippians 4:4-7: Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say,
Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is
near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer
and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made
known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all
understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ
Jesus.
Leader: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church. People: Thanks be to God!
*A MOMENT OF REMEMBRANCE
John G. Thorn August 2, 1953 – November 10, 2016
*FELLOWSHIP HYMN #379 Let All things Now Living Ash Grove
Written for an easy-to-sing melody familiar in England as well as Wales, this 20th-century North American text bears many resemblances to both Psalm 148 and the traditional canticle Benedictite, omnia opera Domini (Bless the Lord all you works of the Lord).
CHILDREN’S MESSAGE Rev. Jason Alspaugh
During the last verse of the Fellowship Hymn children are invited to come up into the choir loft for the Children’s Message. Following the message children will be led back down to the front pews to witness the baptisms, after which preK-5 grade will be led downstairs for Sunday School. PreK-1 graders will be in Rm. #4. Grades 2-5 will be in Rm. #3B. Parents should pick up their children after worship.

CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE
We rejoice in God’s empowering love, freely given to each
and all. We welcome you, newly baptized, into the circle of
love in Christ’s church. We praise God for the gifts of
ministry that you bring to this community. We promise to
pray for you, to seek the depths of faith with you, to
support you, and to love you. We covenant with you to love
God with all our hearts, minds, souls and strength, and our
neighbors as ourselves.
CALL TO PRAYER #472 (refrain only) Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus Lemmel
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
look full in His wonderful face,
and the things of earth will grow strangely dim
in the light of His glory and grace.

INVITATION TO CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP Rev. Dr. Barger
(Persons wishing to join First Baptist Church are invited to come forward while the organist plays the hymn of response. You may join First Baptist Church by transfer of letter, statement of faith, or baptism. The pastor will greet you as you come forward this morning.)
ACOLYTES ENTER AFTER CHOIR RECESSES
*HYMN OF RESPONSE #372 Come, Ye Thankful People, Come St. Georges Windsor
Despite its familiar Thanksgiving associations, the real concern of this text is to recall the harvest imagery Jesus used to describe the fulfillment of God’s sovereignty. The tune name commemorates the royal chapel where the composer was organist for forty-seven years.
ACOLYTES EXTINGUISH THE LIGHT AND LEAD THE PASTORS OUT, SYMBOLICALLY CARRYING THE LIGHT OF CHRIST INTO THE WORLD
*BLESSING WITH DISMISSAL Rev. Dr. Barger
*CONGREGATIONAL BENEDICTION Now Say a Prayer (from the Goodbye Song) Hairston

Say a prayer for each other till we meet again.

Prayer for the Armed Forces
Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men
and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day
with your heavenly grace, strengthen them in their trials and temptations,
give them courage to face the perils which beset them, and grant them a
sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be, through Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.
