Teaching, Learning, & Living Hip Hop Culture with Author, Educator, Activist
Sam Seidel
Lecture & Dinner Discussion
Date: Tuesday, March 4, 2014 from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM (PST) Location: Kamakakuokalani Center: Hālau ʻo Haumea
In this conversation, we will explore hip hop as a culture and philosophy of oppositional voice. We will look beyond rap music, pedagogy, and traditional demographic views of hip hop in order to understand it as a cultural world view that young adults apply to all of the
social spaces that they occupy (schools, neighborhoods, families, and social networks). In this regard, we will explore the ways that we can use the foundation and ethics of hip hop to
transform environments and to make them more inclusive and inspiring spaces.
