Quiltasdesired.Don’tyoujustlovethatterm?IhappentohaveanAPQSLucy–long-armquiltingmachine.Somepeoplehandofftheirquilt-topstolong-armquilters,Ihavedonesomanytimesovertheyears.Iquiltedidenticaldesignsinsideidenticaldesignelements.ThiswayIrepeatedtheideaofFussy-Cuttingwiththequilting.BecauseIknewIwasfinishingtheedgewiththeuniqueangularedgebyappliqueingthebacktothefront,Ihadtostay1/4“–1/2”awayfromtheedgeofthequiltwithmyquilting.

FinishingwithanAngularEdgebyAppliquéingtheBacktotheFrontwithoutaTraditionalBorderorBinding


Carefullyfoldbackthequilt-top,wrapthebackingfabricaroundtheedgeofthetrimmedbattingtoencaseit.UsingtheAppliqueinstructionsunderQuiltmakingBasicsonpage12ofTheNewHexagon,appliquethebackingtothequilt-topedgebeingcarefultohideyourstitchesinsideandthequiltandnothavethemshowonthefrontsideofthequilt.

PlaceseveralstitchesclosetogetherinsidetheVtohinderfraying.

Thereareofcoursesomeotheroptionstofinishyourquilt.YoucouldappliqueittoaborderlikeIdidintheHexaliciousQuilt,seepage74-76TheNewHexagon.YoucouldalsostraightenouttheedgesbyEnglishPaperPiecinghalf-hexagonsandhalf6-pointdiamondtocompletetheedge.PaperPiecesevenhasapaperpackforthisoption.Thepackagecontainsthe30–3”Half6-pointDiamondsand18–3”HalfHexagonsneededtofillinthedipinthetop/bottomandsidestocreateastraightedge.
