3)The Government Palace, actually

seat of the Prefecture, built in 1825

and partially destroyed by the air

raids during the Second World War.

4)The Province Palace was built in the

thirties in a Neoclassic style.

2)The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, was

rebuilt on the ruins of a primitive Romanesque

style church. The interior is a three-nave building

with two lines of columns which hold the arched

roof. The Baroque style is present in the multi-

colour marbles, altars in the side chapels and

paintings of contemporary artists such as Purifi-

cato.

5)The Skyscraper “Edera” was built in the

seventies. It is 90m high, and is one of

the tallest in Lazio.

1)The square tower, 62 meters

high, dominates the town, it is in

Romanesque style and has three

windows. The oldest document in

which the bell tower is mentioned

dates back to 1674. Certainly the

existing building at that time was

carried out in the medieval period,

since it was attached to St. Mary’s

Church, whose construction was

begun in the first half of the twelfth

century.

7)The fountain “L. De Carolis”is attributed to

the architect Alexander Specchi, known as au-

thor of the famous Steps in Trinità dei Monti in

Rome. Specchi designed the fountain in 1711,

near the existing Sanctuary of Madonna della

Neve, by the will of Livio de Carolis.

6)The Villa Comunale

opened in 2002 after

an accurate restora-

tion, is the largest city

park. The entrance to

the park is characte-

rized by a typical Italian

garden accommoda-

tion, consisting of long

hedges and trees be-

longing to different

species, arranged in

circular flower beds.

8)The river Cosa runs through the lower part of Frosinone from North to South. The

river has always had a great importance in the history of the town since the first hu-

man settlements on its banks in prehistoric and Volscian times: necropolis and remains

of settlements, dating back to VII-VI century B.C, were found along the river.

Frosinone is a town in Lazio, central Italy, the administrative seat of the Province of

Frosinone. It is located about 70 km south-east of Rome close to the Rome-Naples

Highway A1. Frosinone is located on a hill overlooking the valley of the Sacco River,

and is surrounded by the Ernici and Lepini mountain ranges. During the Middle

Ages, Frosinone was destroyed several times by the barbarian invasions first, and

laters by the Lansquenets, by Spaniards in 1556, and it remained faithful to the

Papal authority, which led to the permanent residence in 1557 of the papal gover-

nors in the town. The town also rebelled to Napoleon's occupation in 1798.
