LAODICEA c SELF-SUFFICIENT c POOR IN SPIRIT
The good news for those of us who are overcome is that Christ commands us to repent! Why is this good news? Because the command to repent brings with it the grace and
opportunity to repent (Revelation 2.21; 1 Kings 18.37). A review of Christ’s letters to the seven churches of Asia Minor reminds us of how relevant they are for individual Christians in our prosperous and independently-minded American culture. We are so concerned about money and reputation that we tend to put work (even church work) before people. We so enjoy our prosperity that we have become very self-protective of ourselves and our stuff, counting on the rapture to happen before we ever have to suffer persecution. At the same time, we are experiencing the greatest barrage of temptations in the history of the world! Many Christians have compromised their faith by addiction to pornography, and (stung by their consciences) have retreated from the front lines of ministry. Ironically, the more we fall short of God’s glory and Christ’s character, the more we think of ourselves as self-sufficient, and in need of nothing. In the light of these things, our Lord Jesus is so gracious to stand at the door of our lives and knock.

Step 1: Cut out the 8 pieces of the altar on page D-21. Cut only along the solid, straight lines.
Step 2: Lightly score and fold along the dotted lines of the “Up-per Box” panel so as to form a square box with square openings at top and bottom. Tape or paste tab “A” to surface “B”.
Step 3: Repeat step 2 above with “Lower Box” panel.
Step 4: Center the smaller “Upper Box” on the larger “Lower Box” and tape or paste the two boxes together.
Step 5: Fold each of the four triangular “Horns” pieces in half, and fit each one to a corner of the “Upper Box,” pasting or taping it in place.
Step 6: Center the square “Grill” piece over the top of the “Upper Box” and paste or tape it in place.
