OCP,WORLD LEADERIN THE PHOSPHATE INDUSTRYWith exclusive access to the world's largest phosphate reserves, OCP maintains its position as the world leader in the phosphate industry, including phosphate rock, phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizer. Fully integrated, the Group is engaged at each stage of the value chain, from mining to processing to the sale of phosphate products.
Boasting major industrial plants designed according to the best international standards in processes, technologies and industrial tools, OCP produces close to 28 million tons of phosphate rock, 3 million tons of P2O5 phosphoric acid and 4 million tons of fertilizer (MAP, DAP…).
Moreover, its appropriately tailored organization has allowed this global leader to export more than 28% of phosphate in all its forms, with mining capacities exceeding 34 million tons per year.
Thus, with almost a 100-years experience in industrial development, the Group has successfully confirmed its unique positioning and unequaled flexibility in a highly-specialized and complex industry.

In order to meet the world's growing agricultural needs in phosphate and fertilizing solutions, the Group has initiated in 2008 a historical turning point with the rollout of a new comprehensive Industrial Transformation Strategy.
This revolutionary process, requiring a 145 billion MAD investment for the whole program, prerequisites a radical transformation in the Group’s 23,000 employees working, operating, and behaving modes.
Hence, the ultimate objective of doubling the extraction capacity of the mines and tripling the processing capacity by 2025 will allow the Group
to achieve another change in the scale. It will also help enhance the production capacity of phosphates and fertilizers, optimize cost effectiveness, invest in R&D and reinforce the World Class leadership of the Group by combining performance and industrial development.
In order to achieve this ambitious strategy, OCP introduced in 2008 a new era of industrial development by launching mega-projects on the Group's different operating plants.
Being a true technological exploit, the industrial development program is announcing in-depth transformation of both the production tools and industry practices.

THE SLURRY PIPELINE REVOLUTION:THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN MOROCCOAmong the OCP projects implemented as part of the industrial development program is the Slurry Pipeline. This major change in the Group's industrial process relies predominantly on the technological leap of pipeline hydraulic transport to meet the twin challenge of volume growth and cost optimization throughout the value chain.
Th is techno log ica l sh i f t marks fundamental changes in the phosphate transport approach in Morocco, with the shift of the production chain from discrete to continuous and integrated mode, from phosphate m in ing to bene f i c i a t i on i n the processing units up to loading of phosphate products onto the ship for export.

PROJECT CONTENT
• 187 km length and 900 mm diameter primary pipeline connecting the head station in Khouribga to the terminal station in Jorf Lasfar.
• 48 km secondary pipelines (300 to 500 mm diameter) connecting the washing plants to the head station.
• Main pipeline's head station consisting of 4 pulpreservoirs and the main pumping station supplying the mineral pipeline.
• The terminal station at Jorf Lasfar with 8 tanks designed to receive and distribute the phosphate pulp to the different consumption functions.
• Valve and pressure monitoring stations.
• Data Control and Acquisition System.
An innovative large-scale projectThis mineral pipeline secures the continuous transport of phosphate pulp from Khouribga mines to the Jorf Phosphate Hub integrated processing platform, where it will be transformed into derivative products, while cutting down on several intermediate steps for its transport.

phosphate pulp (consisting of 60% phosphate and 40% water) after it had been mined and washed in Khouribga – with a total capacity of no less than 38 million tons of phosphates per year.
Phosphate rock from the different mines of Khouribga is enriched in four processing units through washing and flotation. Equipped with crushers and thickeners, these units allow for the preparation of phosphate pulp for pipeline hydro-transport. Crushed and thickened pulp is
Technological innovation and engineeringStretching over a distance of nearly 235 km, the Khouribga-Jorf Lasfar Integrated Line’s Slurry Pipeline, flowing thanks to natural gravity, achieved the impressive feat of transporting the
then stored in tanks upon leaving the washing plants and are then pumped via secondary pipelines up to a collecting station located near the Merah washing plant, called head station.
From this station, phosphate pulp supplies the main pipeline ensuring the hydro-transport from Khouribga to the Jorf Lasfar processing platform.
Finally, the terminal station, consisting of storage tanks, is designed for the receipt and distribution of phosphate pulp.
Thus, as it has been designed, the pipeline route has been fully optimized as to minimize the length of the main pipeline, and thereby reduce route constraints and avoid passing through population centers.

The Khouribga-Jorf Lasfar pipeline is lying at a depth of two meters below ground level. Very robust and made of special alloy steel, it is protected thanks to an internal and external coating and enjoys cathode corrosion protection.Equipped with 4 intermediate pressure control stations set every 40 km, the Slurry Pipeline provides directly the pressure-related data necessary to the monitoring system (SCADA) including three basic components:• A monitoring system consisting of controllers and computers network managed and supervised from several locations;• A communication system ensuring the transmission of data between various locations all along the pipeline ;
• A software connection that assists the operators in the monitoring data evaluation and allows them to respond quickly to any abnormal situation.
The data analysis system is fitted with a software providing for the continuous evaluation of data originated from the SCADA system of the pipeline. This system is used to highlight the measures necessary in case of likely leak detections.
Hence, the specific feature of this secure process is to considerably improves the volume/production cost competitiveness while significantly reducing the ecological footprint, thanks to sizable savings in water and energy consumption.
