HEALTHY HEART RECIPE
Fold two hands together,
And express a dash of sorrow.
Marinate it overnight,
And work on it tomorrow.
Chop one grudge in tiny pieces,
Add several cups of love.
Dredge with a large sized smile,
Mix with the ingredients above.
Dissolve the hate within you,
By doing a good deed.
Cut in and help your friend,
If he/she should be in need.
Stir in laughter, love and kindness,
From the heart it has to come.
Toss with genuine forgiveness,
And give your friends some.
The amount of people served,
Will depend on you.
It can serve the whole wide world.
If you really want it to... ---Author Unknown

NEW LARYNGECTOMEE VISITATION
Jan. 8th – Ramadan Habil, a new
laryngectomee accompanied by Hawa and
Fathalla Meswari, his sister and brother-
in-law, came to Herb & Sally’s home for
this post-op visit. Ramadan came to the
U.S. from Libya to have his surgery,
which was performed at Abbott NW
Hospital in Minneapolis, MN on Nov. 4th.
He is presently staying with Hawa and
Fathalla in their Burke, VA home, while
he is undergoing treatment at Inova
Fairfax Hospital. Ramadan, who turned
66 years old on New Years Day, retired 3
years ago from his position as Finance
Officer for the port city of Derna in
Eastern Libya. He is looking forward to
returning home to Libya to be with his
family, when he completes his therapy
treatments. He and his wife Majda, have
been married for 42 years, They have 4
children and a couple of grandchildren.
Ramadan looked very good and has
gained back quite a bit of the weight that
he had lost due to his pre-op radiation and
the surgery itself.
Ramadan, had not spoken since his
surgery. Herb brought out a Servox for
him to try. He needed an oral adapter, due
to the radiation treatments he had prior to
his surgery. Ramadan only speaks in
Arabic. With Fathalla and Hawa
interpreting Herb’s instructions, Ramadan
tried speaking with the EL. A broad smile
appeared on his face, when he spoke his
first words. He only used the EL a little at
first, but with some prodding from those
present, he began using it more frequently.
When Herb tried placing the EL on
Ramadan’s cheek, he was able to produce
some intelligible speech, although he did
not like this method as well. It was
suggested that Ramadan practice using
both methods, and he said would.
Ramadan was given a loaner Servox EL.
Everyone was happy and they all had big
smiles on their faces when they were
leaving for home. Thanks go out to SLP Melanie Dorn at Inova Fairfax Hospital
for referring Ramadan to Herb and the
New Voice Club of Northern Virginia.
