Slide 2 Slide 3 The zipper was made in 1893.The first zipper was made in Chicago, Illinois by Whitcomb Judson and Gideon Sundback. The first zipper was called the clasp locker. Universal Fastener Company manufactured the first zipper. Slide 4 Whitcomb Judson used a process for making the zipper. I think he made a blueprint as he went along so he could remember what he did before. Then, he sent it to a manufacturer (Gideon Sundback) at Universal Fastener Company. Slide 6 Y K K America manufactures more than seven million zippers per day. In the 1930s a sales campaign began for childrens clothing featuring zippers. The zipper beat the button in the Battle of the Fly in 1937. The zipper was first a hook- and- eye shoe fastener. Zippers can be used on almost any clothing.
