Playmakers Civic TheatrePresents A Theatre Favorite
THE STORY: The action is set in Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladieswho are "anybody" come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is notsure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos andfree advice to the town's rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, ("I'm not crazy, I've just been in a bad mood for fortyyears"); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader,M'Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a "good ole boy." Filledwith hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play movestoward tragedy when, in the second act, the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and for-feits her life. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others, but also draws on the underly-ing strength — and love — which give the play, and its characters, the special quality to make them trulytouching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.

STEEL MAGNOLIAS TO OPEN ON MAY 15
"There is no such thing as natural beauty" is a line from Steel Magnolias, but also a mantrathat most females believe in as seen in our regular trips to our favorite stylist. Most ladieswill relate to the friendships of the six women of who frequent Truvy's Beauty Salon and thatfact that they are an important factor in each other's lives. Steel Magnolias impacts us withwonderful characters....lots of laughs.....and plenty of tears and tragedy. However, the truemessage of the play is that we survive the hardships and heartbreaks of life through the loveand strength of our friends.
I am honored to be directing six extremely talented women who are working very hard tobring " Steel Magnolias" to the Playmaker stage. You'll see Playmaker veterans....as well asnew faces
Steel Magnolias will feature....in order of appearance...........

My talented sister, Anita Hanes , accepted the challenge of transforming the "Don't Hug Me"set into Truvy's Beauty Parlor. The result is delightful!Assisting Anita has been Dale Jensen, Steve Heineman and Dennis Gordon.
Wendy Holder has been helping with set pieces and props, and will also be offering herexpertise as hairdresser throughout the show.
Lisa and Samantha Meyer will be responsible for lights and sound. We know this mother/daughter duo are unstoppable.

Brenda MacDonald will do her usual efficient job of co-ordinating the program and boxoffice.

Playmakers Proposes Our 69th Season A Season of Heart-warming & Hilarious Happenings!
Faith County
Book by Anthony Drewe Music by George Stiles Lyrics by Anthony DreweBased on Hans Christian Anderson’s The Ugly Duck ling
HONK is a large cast family musical for adults and children, played by adults andchildren, with wonderful music and a story that relates to our time and says
“It’s okay to be different”. Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despitehis mother's protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the littlefowl finds himself on adventure of self discovery all the while unknowinglyoutwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way Ugly meets a whole flock ofunique characters and finds out being different is not a bad thing to be.
By Mark Landon Smith
Faith County is the prequel to Faith County II: An Evening of Culture byPlaymakers in January, 2009. You will recognize those charming charactersfrom The Mineola Cultural Society who gave an “unforgettable” performanceof Romeo and Juliet .Somewhere in the middle of nowhere in the south, there's a place where the
bee-hive hairdo is still the rage and Saturday nights are reserved for the tractor pull in nearby Pickler. A colorful collection of good ole' country folk gather'round for this year's county fair, and there's stiff competition in the arts andcrafts category.
By Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch AlbomBased on the book by Mitch Albom
Tuesdays with Morrie is the driven solely by his career, and MorrieSchwartz, his former college professor. Sixteen years after graduation, Mitchhappens to catch Morrie's appearance on a television news program and learnsthat his old professor is battling Lou Gehrig's Disease. Mitch is reunited withMorrie, and what starts as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and alast class in the meaning of life.
By Frances Goodrich & Albert Hackett
Newly Adapted by Wendy Kesselman
In this transcendently powerful new adaptation by Wendy Kesselman, AnneFrank merges from history a living, lyrical, intensely gifted young girl, whoconfronts her rapidly changing life and the increasing horror of her time withastonishing honest, wit, and determination. An impassioned drama about thelives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic, The
Diary of Anne Frank captures the claustrophobic realities of their daily exis-tence – their fear, their hope, their laughter, their grief.
