METCRAX II: meteorological measurements in October 2013 in the Barringer Meteor Crater, Arizona Research questions :
Analyses of downslope‐windstorm types like - cold air flow - warm air intrusions - hydraulic flow into the crater. dynamic processes in and around the crater
Why IR analyses in addition?
- Surface (IR) temperatures changes show air temperature changes indirectly at special conditions (such as surface properties and correct measurement setup)
- Extensive data collection (up to 782,285 IR pixel in one IR picture) - IR data collection in sequenced way allow analysis of dynamic processes (time series analyses)

Research questions at METCRAX II, wich are additionally analysed with the IR method:
1. Identification and dynamics of the cold and warm air inflow into the craters south rim
3. Warm air intrusion (WAI) and resulting turbulences at the craters ground WAI
2. Thickness of the cold air pool in the crater over the night and at special flow dynamic situations

IR method at METCRAX II
What is possible? - Analysis of air mass processes, which accur together with temperature changes - Analysis at different scales - Combination with other data is possible - Data analysis as
1. visualisation 2. time series statistical analysis
What has to be considered? - The recorded surfaces have to be dry and reactive to air temperature changes - surface properties can be different in one recorded IR investigation area emissivity, humidity (near ground condensation), temperature reactivity and heat storage
- 2D-IR picture showing a 3D domain different angles of IR Cam view in one IR picture
Big benefit for dynamic air process understanding by additional IR method
