who is recovering at home after almost a month in the hospital and rehab
Speaker Last MeetingOur Guest Speaker last week was our
very own John Couris, Administrator and C.O.O. of Morton Plant North Bay Hospital. John told us that the hospital was founded in 1965 and it’s now time for renovations. Mor-ton Plant North Bay is a non-profit hospital and has achieved many awards including Carf, for acute care rehabilitation, the high-est award you can get, as well as the Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center.
John spoke about the project being a 50 million dollar, three year expansion project. In the first phase there will be a new patient tower, 3 stories tall which will house a new cardiology unit with 22 beds, a new ICU with 14 private rooms and eight new private rooms for medical surgery, oncology and ICU overflow. They will also be expanding respiratory care and adding
a new pharmacy. There will also be a face lift for the emergency room. They will also be adding a classroom and meeting room space.
Phase two will include new medical offices and an outpatient services building. They will be expanding the sleep disorders space and outpatient lab. Groundbreaking will be September 3rd.
Eventually there will be additional park-ing, making it more convenient for wherever you are entering the building. There will be a community exercise path that will wind its way around a very large retention pond. There will be digital operating suites with technology that helps doctors minimize your time in surgery and recovery. John said that there will be new cardiovascular suites and that they have a new 64 slice CT scanner.
John also told us that phase 1 sitework is underway. The new generator is in and the generator building is to be completed by November. He said, “This is your hospital and we are excited to be providing you with world class service.” He ended with saying that it should be finished in 2010.
We would like to thank John and Morton Plant North Bay Hospital for all that they are doing for the community. We would also like to thank John for an interesting and informative program.
Off-Site MeetingNEXT WEEK
Hope you are paying attention. The September 10th meeting will be held at Covanta, the solid waste disposal plant off Hayes Road. Just take SR 52 to Hayes Road (Hayes Road runs into it). Be there around 12:00 p.m. Sign up sheet is going around this week. If you don’t get a chance to sign up, but want to go, call Arlen Tillis at 844-4314.
Bulletin NoticesIf any of you are on any non-profit board
(okay, that would be about most of us), or work for a non-profit, please let Bonnie know when you have upcoming events. Give her
One Magical NightMorton Plant Mease Foundation cor-
dially invites all of you to their Inaugural Black Tie Event, “One Magical Night” being held Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Champions Club at 7:00 p.m. They invite you to join them for cocktails, dancing, entertainment and the opportunity to taste signature dishes from the area’s best res-taurants. Seating is limited, so they request that you respond by September 5th. You may contact Rich Williams, Cami Austin, Marc Bowman, Ken Misemer or John Couris for tickets. The cost of the event is $125 per person and it is a black or white tie event. You may also let them know if you would like to be a sponsor or advertise in their program. It sounds like a really fun night and I hope to see you all there!
a story to put in the Bulletin for you. We can put it in Dates to Remember as well as doing a story. Share with your fellow Rotarians. Times are tough, but they are tougher on the non-profits right now with all the budget cuts.

God and TaxesA little boy wanted $100.00 very badly
for a new bike and prayed for weeks, but nothing happened. Then he decided to write God a letter requesting the $100.00. When The postal authorities received the letter to God, USA , they decided to send it to the President. The President was so amused that he instructed his secretary to send the little boy a $5.00 bill. The President thought this would appear to be a lot of money to a little boy.
The little boy was delighted with the $5.00 bill and sat down to write a thank-you note to God, which read: “Dear God: Thank you very much for
Married LifeThree women - one engaged, one mar-
ried and one a mistress - were chatting about their relationships and decided to amaze their men. That night all three agreed they would wear a sexy leather bodice style, stilettos and a mask over their eyes.
After a few days they met again.…The engaged girlfriend said, “The
other night, when my boyfriend came back home, he found me in the leather bodice, 4” stilettos and a mask. He said, ‘You are the woman of my life, I love you’ and we made love all night long.”
The mistress stated, “Oh yes! The other night, we met in the office. I was wearing the leather bodice, mega stilet-tos, a mask over my eyes and a raincoat. When I opened the raincoat, he didn’t say a word. We just had wild sex all night.”
The married one then said, “The other night I sent the kids to stay at my mother’s
for the night. I got myself ready - leather bodice, super stilettos and a mask over my eyes. My husband came in from work, grabbed the remote and a beer and said, ‘Hey Batman, what’s for dinner?’ ”
sending the money. However, I noticed that for some reason you sent it through Washington, DC., and those bloodsuck-ing thieves deducted $95.00 in taxes!”
How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?
