Pro-life Initiative Signature Collection at weekend masses, November 9 & 10
Abortion destroys the smallest and most helpless members of the human family. We, as Catholics (Christians) are called by God to protect his precious gift of life. Did you know that your tax dollars are being used to pay for abortions in Massachusetts? Fortunately, there is something each of us can do to stop this. On November 9-10, volunteers from the Massachusetts Alliance to Stop Taxpayer Funded Abortions (website:www.stoptaxpayerabortion.org) will be collecting signatures after the masses on a petition to amend the state constitution so that taxpayer subsidized abortions are no longer a constitutional entitlement in Massachusetts. Please stop by and sign this petition.
Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality
The Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality of the Light of Christ Catholic Collaborative will hold its meeting on November 4th at 6:30 PM in Fr. Glennon Hall at Holy Ghost Church. We will start with the rosary to honor Our Blessed Virgin Mary. The featured speaker for this month will be from Friends of the homeless of the South Shore. We look forward to an enlightening and informative talk. We will discuss any business that is needed including any future speakers we would like to hear. Please bring your thoughts and ideas. Delicious refreshments will be served. Our raffle will also be held as usual. Keep in mind our annual Thanksgiving bake and dinner raffle basket sale, more about that soon to come. We welcome new members.

The story of Zacheus that we hear this weekend is one of my favorites. While the bible doesn’t give a detailed physical description beyond him being a wealthy man and small in stature, my imagination does the rest. He is wealthy so I’m guessing he wears the fancy clothes of the day, he is short in stature so everything would have to be tailored to fit his shorter body, yep to me he ‘stands’ out in a crowd. He’s anxious he wants to see who Jesus is, but he can’t. He collects taxes, everybody probably has seen him at some point or another. He takes their money and now he wants to cut in front of them? I don’t think so. But this short well-dressed man is determined. Look he is climbing a tree in his fancy clothes. He could possibly tear them not to mention fall out of a tree. “You shouldn’t climb with fancy robes on Zacheus.” He doesn’t say anything, but Jesus does. Jesus was like the famous people of today, people didn’t seek his autograph, but they wanted a handshake. Or maybe if we maybe had the parable modernized it would say; ‘many people sought to take selfies with Jesus.’ Why did he look up rather than take in the limelight of the crowd? Because Zacheus was there and what does he tell him? Does he say just “come down and talk to me” no he says “come down quickly, for today I must stay at your house.” Does Zacheus use the old two-year old response? “Why?” No, he came down quickly and received him with joy. Are you a seeker of Christ or does Christ find you? Are you determined like Zacheus? Can you find a way? DO you accept Christ can find a way for you? We have one mouth and two ears we need to listen in our prayer more than we speak, so we can hear the voice of God say through his son Jesus “this is my body given up for you” “this is my blood given up for you“ “I love you and you are mine” Peace to All Father Tom
