CLEVELAND HEIGHTS
Neighborhood rivals Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights meet in an afternoon battle on
Sept. 14.
Both teams come in at 1-1 in what will be a key game in a chase for a Region 1 playoff
berth.
For Shaker, Dakota Cochran returns as an all-area punter and big-play receiver. Adam Diaz
takes over as the full-time starting quarterback with an experienced set of receivers at his
disposal and a running back in Victor Ford, who picked up carries last year. The offense
should be a strength for Shaker, which picks up the pace with a no-huddle scheme. The
defense was outstanding in a Week 1 win over Bedford.
Heights is coming off a dominating 17-0 win over Glenville. The Tigers also led Medina
late in the fourth, but were unable to hold off the Bees in a 21-10 loss in Week 1.
Justin Wodtly is a Division I recruit that makes an impact every snap he's on the field.
Offensive lineman Maurice Hamilton has been tremendous up front in the triple option
attack. Quarterback Bay Harvey is getting more comfortable each game.
Defensively, Diego Bremer and Jiovanny Holmes have been standouts for the Tigers.

Alex Nicholson was hired in Feb 2019 to lead the Red
Raiders varsity team. Nicholson's five-year plan for the
program includes goals related to both the team's culture
and the community, as well as benchmarks for increasing
the number of players achieving at least a 3.0 GPA. He also
has plans for enhancing the pipeline of talent into the high
school, connecting with Shaker Heights High football
alums, and competing for regional and then state titles.
Nicholson has been a coach at Brush since 2016. He
started as a run game coordinator and then, last year, was
promoted to associated head coach.

Cleveland Heights rebounded from a tough loss in Week 1 to shutout Glenville, 17-0, on Sept. 6.
The Tigers, who lost to Medina in the opener, bounced back in a huge way with a dominating victory at home in Week 2.
Cleveland Heights defeated Glenville with a 12-yard touchdown reception from Bay Harvey to Jayvion Holcomb and a 1-yard goal line plunge from Justin Wodtly.
“Our defensive and offensive coordinators put together a great plan,” Heights coach Mac Stephens said.
“The kids came to play and were excited to play against a quality team after losing a tough one in Week 1.”
The Tigers are 1-1 on the season with a game against Shaker Heights on tap in Week 3.
The defense held a very talented Tarblooders squad off the scoreboard.
“Diego Bremer came up with some big-time plays on defense and our triple-option offense was in a good rhythm,” Stephens said.

Garfield Heights and Shaker Heights will join an expanding Lake Erie League over the next 12-month period.
Shaker Heights Red Raiders will exit the Greater Cleveland Conference and join the LEL beginning in August
2020. Garfield Heights rejoins the LEL after leaving the league more than a decade ago. The Bulldogs have
played most recently as an independent, and will join the new 8-team LEL halfway through the 2019-2020
school year.
Both Garfield Heights and Shaker Heights were previously LEL members, with Garfield departing in 2007 and
Shaker in 2012. Both joined the Northeast Ohio Conference, which disbanded by 2015 with eight of those
members forming the GCC.
