Community Announcements :
Words on Wellbeing The Three R’s…
We all know the saying. It doesn’t matter if we are teachers, parents, kids or even politicians! The 3 R’s have always referred to
Writing, Reading and Arithmetic. However, last weekend was a special one for many of our school community with the Anzac
ceremony in Portland. So, I think for the moment our 3 R’s simply mean Remembrance, Respect and Reflect.
Students were exemplary in demonstrating and being rewarded for acts of RESPECT last week. As part of our wellbeing, mutual
respect is a social competency so critical for harmony and understanding. I suppose with the Anzac tradition firmly in our heads at
present, many would comment that in any conflict, the quality of respect is still there. Enemies were to respect each other for skills,
bravery, endurance and courage. And so within the school environment, we model respect for others every day: in classrooms, at
play, talking and listening to others.
To remember everything that has been done for us is a huge task. So we can break it up into simple things that have meaning for
each person; we remember to respect others at all times. We will always remember the sacrifice of others in war but unfortunately
today we still remain in conflicts. At present, many are remembering Bali and Nepal and reflecting on how we respond to issues.
This is an important lesson in reflection. How do we do things better? Why do things happen?
Take time at home to also reflect on a good day. Be positive – remember what others do for us; respect diversity and differences;
reflect on how we can all do better. The wellbeing of our country simply starts with what we practise at home and at school. Let us
practise those 3 R’s daily!
