as Places for People 4. Low and Medium Rise

1. Imageability 2. Enclosure 3. Human Scale 4. Transparency 5. Complexity 6. Coherence 7. Legibility 8. Linkage
Through Planning Through Design
TOD Challenges and opportunities in China - Increase Densities around Transit Hubs - Shift from Superblocks to Small Blocks - Develop Connectivity - Create Public space - Increase Walkable Accessibility - Increase Mixed use, Variety and Flexibility

Golden Triangle Park is an asset for the 250,000 people leaving in a radius of 2 km (very high density of offices) It should become a destination and a civic space for this community Environmental benefits: heat island effect reduction Social benefits: creates community civic space Economic benefits: increases property values around the park
A Green Triangle in a Dense Neighborhood
Serge Salat, Architect
EFFICIENT LAND USE Perimeter block development reaches a FAR of 4 with medium rise buildings and 50 % of land for inside green civic space Serge Salat, Architect.
GREEN TRIANGLE Serge Salat, Architect.
A green preserved island in a highly dense neighborhood Preserve Green Space entirely : more green space than before thanks to suspended gardens, green roofs and terraced gardens. 50% of the park is preserved at ground level; More than 50% is recreated in the form of elevated gardens.
LINKAGE refers to
physical and visual connections from building to street, building to building, space to space, or one side of the street to the other – that tend to unify urban space. Serge Salat, Architect.
GREEN CIVIC SPACE Green Plaza and green amphitheater are astounding civic places Serge Salat, Architect.
CIVIC SPACE A Green Agora provides space for performances and people gathering. Serge Salat, Architect.
CONNECTED : Transport Node - BPS and subway lines are connected by a pedestrian
lane through public garden. - 6 public passages allow crossing the garden from
adjacent streets and move towards the river. - Green roof promenade will be extended at second
stage towards the commercial street and will replace the existing overpass.
Serge Salat, Architect.
LINKAGE: A continuous green promenade for pedestrians on the green triangle roofs
links all spaces (inside and outside) with elevated gardens and bridges sloping gently up and down from street level to the tower
LEGIBILITY: refers to the ease with which the spatial structure of a place can be understood and
navigated as a whole. The legibility of a place is improved by a street or pedestrian network that provides travelers with a sense of orientation and relative location, and by physical elements that serve as reference points.
Serge Salat, Architect.
IMAGEABILITY An iconic green tower -Landmark (singularity and location) -Sense of place: a characteristic visual theme -Serge Salat, Architect.
COMPLEXITY And Transparency People can see what lies beyond the edge of streets and public spaces Serge Salat, Architect.
COHERENCE: Rhythm of street edge (vibrant and green) Medium rise buildings line the street providing a coherent and vibrant streetscape Serge Salat, Architect.
