The SOLAR Home page appears as below
Choose Solar e-Assessment to access the assessment area The Tutor should select Centres, then click Administration Login

The Tutor will be asked to provide the User Name and Password This will be supplied by e-mail when registered – Passwords can be changed using the Personal Profile Management button once logged in
The Home page appears as below – the Tabs you will be working with are Schedule Assessment, Keycodes and Reports

To schedule an assessment choose the Schedule Assessment Tab
Click the Create Assessment Tab to start the Schedule Assessment Wizard When the Schedule Assessment Wizard opens click your own centre eg. Aberdeen College then Next

Click the subject required, select the exam required, then click Next
A multiple day assessment can be set up as below by selecting the required dates, then click Next
Note: Set up the multiple day exam as close to the date the exam is to be taken as possible – not weeks ahead. This should help to alleviate the problem where all keycodes for that particular exam are printed each time

Select the relevant cohort group if cohorts are set up, if not select the students who will be sitting the exam, then click Next
Choose “No” to the question deliver the same assessment to all candidates?” if the option is not greyed out, then click Next

A summary of the exam details is provided on the next screen Click Finish to complete the process
The Candidate’s name appears on the Schedule Assessment list, once the status changes to locked keycode will be available in Keycode tab

Click the Keycodes tab
Choose Print Keycodes The Print Keycodes Wizard opens Select the Centre, the Subject and the Assessment, then click Next

Select the date the candidates are to sit the exam (this date will be printed on the keycode sheet handed out to the candidates), then click Finish
A printout will be provided for all candidates entered for the Assessment selected
The student will receive the Keycode as access to the assessment immediately prior to the start of the exam. The result at the end should be recorded on the sheet by the student and handed back to the Tutor

The student will access the exam by navigating to the sqasolar website
The student will choose Solar e-Assessment, I’m a Learner and then click the Assessment Login button
When the screen below appears the student will have to enter the Keycode supplied by the Tutor. The Keycode is case sensitive
Please note that if you wish to use SOLAR secure client the exam is accessed by the student as follows: Choose Start, Programs, BTL, Secure assess, surpass secure client By choosing this route the student is taken directly to the Keycode login screen for the exam

The candidate is then asked to confirm his/her details
A screen colour preference can be set by clicking Preferences and choosing the required layout - students may find this useful if they find it difficult to read black text on a white background

The exam details screen appears. The candidate clicks Start Assessment when ready to begin The first question appears; the number of questions to be answered is shown

At the end of the exam when the candidate clicks Finish the following prompt appears
Clicking Yes will bring up the following screen
Clicking Return will take the candidate back into the assessment Clicking Finish will produce the Assessment Feedback screen
This Assessment Feedback screen shows which questions were correctly or incorrectly answered

Clicking on Q11, for example, takes the candidate back into the question and indicates what they had chosen as their response. This is marked with a cross but the correct answer is not identified Students should be encouraged to write down the questions they did not answer correctly so that remediation can be carried out by the Tutor prior to the re-assessment Click the Return button to return to the Assessment Feedback screen
The process can be repeated until the student has checked each wrongly answered question To exit the exam click the close button

After the assessment has been completed the Tutor should log in again and choose the Reports Tab
This opens the Reports page Click on the Reports button Click the Reports button

The Reports Wizard opens Choose the Centre, View by Candidate, then click Next
