OPEN HOUSE
Tuesday, January 28th 5:00-7:30 PM
Dear Parishioners,
Pope Francis issued an Apostolic Letter establishing that the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time (today) be observed annually as the “Sunday of the Word of God.” The goal is to enhance our love of Sacred Scripture and to learn more about our dynamic Catholic faith. We need to ask ourselves, “What is the role of the Bible in my life?” “How important is God’s Word to me?” “Do I ever pray and read the Bible?” “Do I make serious attempts to grow in the Catholic faith?” Remember the BIBLE acronym: Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. I pray that all of us will embrace the Word of God in our lives.
Thank you for your understanding as we forgo distribution of the Precious Blood at the
Masses. The flu season is exceptionally bad this year. Although receiving from the chalice should never be any health hazard (due to the precious metals of the chalice and the alcohol content in the Precious Blood), we thought we would temporarily suspend the Precious Blood as an extra precaution until the flu season is over.
This Tuesday night (5:30 PM – 7:30 PM) we have our Open House at Holy Family Grade
School. You might be thinking that this paragraph has no relevance to you. It does! Come meet the teachers and the families. Witness the renovations and see what’s happening at our grade school, which was voted Best Private School in Glendale for four years in a row! Alums, parents, grandparents, prospective families and students and all parishioners are welcome to check out what the excellence and the excitement is all about at Holy Family.
Our Holy Family High School (all girls) continues to enhance its selectivity of students for admissions. Interest is higher than it has been in years. The school looks great and we have long term plans. Under the skilled leadership of Dr. Joe Reiken, our head of school, the website, the academics, the faculty and the environment are attracting a lot of interest from girls all over Glendale, Burbank, Altadena, Atwater Village and Pasadena. If you are interested in Holy Family High School, please do not hesitate to schedule an appointment and see the great things happening.
The Roaring 20’s themed big Winter Dinner Dance is almost sold out! It takes place
February 8 at 6:30 pm in the Grade School Auditorium! Buffet style dinner. Music is provided by Michael Angelo (DJ). 1920's attire is encouraged. Buy your raffle tickets after mass or at the office. The more tickets sold, the higher the prize! We will announce the amount of the prize each weekend. Dance tickets are on sale at the parish office!
Peace, blessings, love, Fr. Jim Bevacqua, Pastor 818-247-2222 x225 [email protected]

WINTER DINNER DANCE
TOGETHER IN MISSION 2020
AS CATHOLICS OUR STORY IS
Next weekend is Together in Mission “Commitment Sunday”. Archbishop Gomez invites us to make our annual commitment to help those parishes and schools that need our help. If you have made a gift in the past, a letter should arrive in your home this week asking you to renew your support. You can return that pledge card via mail or make your pledge at ourmissionla.org/give. A Miss ion , Entrusted to Our Care The Together in Mission campaign is an opportunity for people across the Archdiocese to join together—as one united voice. Thousands of
men and women just like you make a sustainable monthly commitment because they believe in the hope that will be given through classrooms, from pulpits, on the streets and through the sacraments.
Will you join the generosity of others in our community? Will you continue to keep our story alive and fill the pages with hope and compassion? And if you have never given, will you make a pledge?

A C lass i c Prayer
God has created me to do Him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission. I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. He has not created me for naught. I shall do good; I shall do His work. I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place, while not intending it if I do but keep His commandments. Therefore, I will trust Him, whatever I am, I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him, in perplexity, my perplexity may serve Him. If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He knows what He is about. He may take away my friends. He may throw me among strangers. He may make me feel desolate, make my spirits sink, hide my future from me. Still, He knows what He is about.
