Client - IlluminatedMedia Outlet – Little White Lies
Year - 2016
This is from a campaign I ran in March 2016 with the musical collective, Illuminated. Featuring Photographer Sandro Miller, Multi-instrumentalist Eric Alexandrakis and Academy Award nominated actor John Malkovich.
I was brought on last minute to help promote a Q&A and book signing in conjunction with Rough Trade. Despite a narrow time frame, the event was a huge success, and this article by Little White Lies is my
favourite of the press coverage as they did a wonderful in depth interview with the trio.
Client – JonestownMedia Outlet – Metal Hammer Magazine
Year – 2016
When I first started working with Brighton’s Jonestown, they hadn’t had much press exposure outside of the odd
festival review.
I spoke with Metal Hammer Magazine, who fell in love
with the band and gave them an exceptional amount of
coverage.
Metal Hammer reviewed their album, “Aokigahara”,
streamed it on their website, two of their editors named it their “Album of the Month”,
and they gave the band a two page feature.
Jonestown have since been signed to a record label, booking agency and a management company.
Client – Team ChameleonMedia Outlet – Nottingham Evening
PostYear – 2016
Team Chameleon were working on a Pledge campaign for their upcoming
short film, “Wash Club”, in early 2016. With less than a week to go, they were struggling to raise the last of the funds
needed.
The film is based on a BBC Radio Four podcast by the poet Ross Sutherland, in which Ross retold the true story of how he accidentally became the leader of a
death cult whilst at University.
I made a few calls and managed to secure pieces quite quickly with a
number of regional press & online film outlets. The team managed to reach their Pledge target, and the film has
since secured spots on a number of film festivals, including the BAFTA affiliated
Aesthetica Festival.
Client – Outright Resistance
Media Outlet – Diva Magazine
Year – 2016
When I first started working with Outright
Resistance, they informed me that
their vocalist, Paige Lee, was transgender.
The transgender community on the
whole isn’t massively represented in
modern rock music, and I could only think of two other vocalist who had come out as transgender in recent
years.
I spoke with Paige about discussing this with a magazine in
the hope of encouraging other
transgender men and women, and she
agreed. Diva Magazine were more than happy to speak to her, and the end
result was a brilliant article.
Client – Danny SaberMedia Outlet – BBC Radio Five Live
Year – 2015
This piece ties in with the promotion of the latest single by former INXS vocalist Michael Hutchence, “Friction”. Danny, who has worked with many big artists including Madonna, David Bowie & Public Enemy,
and on soundtracks for Blade II & Moulin Rouge, was a long-time friend of Michael’s and gave some incredible interviews. The best being this piece with BBC Radio Five Live. The single secured national
airplay across a number of countries in Europe, including the UK.
Client - The Empire Shall Fall
Media Outlet – BBC Music
Year – 2010
The Empire Shall Fall were the first major
project I took on as a freelancer. Their
vocalist, Jesse Leach, had been a personal
hero of mine for many years.
After a few months working on the project, I’d managed to secure
national print and radio coverage for the band
across the UK and Europe.
The following year, I received my first two
award nominations for Freelancer Of The Year in PR & Marketing. I was the only music related nominee in
either category.
Client – Trondheim Metal FestivalOutlet - Metal Sucks
Year – 2015
I had previously played in a band that had appeared at the Trondheim Metal
Festival in Norway in 2014, and a friend had been involved in the running of the
festival.
He called and asked if I could help with PR, and I said yes. We agreed the
festival needed sponsorship. My first go to were Metal Sucks, as their online
reach is in the millions.
I managed to secure a deal, in which the festival named a stage after them in exchange for a large chunk of coverage.
Client – Raging SpeedhornMedia Outlet – Terrorizer Magazine
Year – 2016
Raging Speedhorn are a band I’ve been a huge fan of since I was 17, and I’ve been lucky enough to work with them since early 2014. This article was written to promote their new album, “Lost Ritual”. The band
decided they wanted to fund it through Pledge, so I worked with them to raise the funds. After eight months we raised £14,000. The record was met with universal praise by the press and fans.
Client – Team RockMedia Outlet – BBC News
Year – 2016
On December 20th 2016, Ben Ward and his partner, Sandie Soriano, set up a JustGiving campaign to
raise the severance pay for the staff members of
publishing company, Team Rock. The staff were made redundant six days before
Christmas with no pay.
I volunteered to project manage the PR on the
campaign, and brought on a number of other publicists to help. We secured nearly
100 press pieces and managed to raise in excess of £78,000 in less than five
days.
As of January 8th, Team Rock has been bought by Future
Publishing and its magazines are back in print.
Client – BeholderMedia Outlet – Dagbladet
Year – 2016
Beholder’s campaign was the first I ran in 2016, and securing this exclusive with Dagbladet is something I am very proud of. Dagbladet are the second largest newspaper in Norway. Typically, the bigger Norwegian tabloids
are quite conservative about covering music related stories. However, when I mentioned it was an ode to the people who lost their lives in the Utoya shootings of 2011, they ran the video on the front page of their website
and did an interview with the band’s vocalist, Simon Hall.
Client – MorganwayMedia Outlet – Acoustic
MagazineYear – 2016
Morganway’s “No Tomorrows” EP, was one of my favourite records
in 2016, and they were a dream to work with.
I managed to secure a number of great
placements for the band, but the pieces with
Acoustic Magazine are some of the best, higher
profile clippings.
The publication is very picky, and gave the band
some incredible coverage. Alongside an
interview & an EP review, they also
premiered the band’s video for “Ain’t It Just”
on their website.
Thanks for your time!
