Some people may be more vulnerable to contami_nants in drinking water than the generalpopulation. Immuno-compromised persons suchas persons with cancer undergoing

organ transplants, people with HIV/Aids or otherimmune system disorders, some elderly, andinfants can be particularly at risk from Infec-tions. These people should seek advise aboutdrinking water from their health care providers.EPA/CDC guidelines on appropriate means tolessen the risk of infection by Cryptosporidiumand other microbial contaminants. For more infor_mation call the Safe Drinking Water Hot Line1€004264791. Additional information can befound on the CDC website: www.cdc.govlh ea lthylratey'drinking/pu bl ic/faq. html.

Water

Our grounclwaterwells are rechargedby precipitationinfiltrating the soilsurface, thenpercolates deep intothe grou nd torecharge theaqurfers. Watertravels the throughthe ground and isfiltered naturallyunderground. Thewater is then pumpedfrom the ground andpiped to your homefor drinking.

through the ground, it dissolves naturally_occurrlng minerals and, in some cases, radioactive material, and can pick upsubstances resulting from the presence ofanimals and human activity.

Microbial contaminants, such as viruses andbacteria, which may come from sewagetreatment plants, septic systems, agricultrrrallivestock operations, and wildlife.

lnorganic contaminants, such as salts andmetals, which can be naturally_occurring orresult from urban storm-water runoff, industrial or domestic wastewaterdischarges, oil and gas production, mining, orfarming.

Pesticides and Herbicides, comes fromagricultural, urban storm-water runoff. andresidential uses.

Organic Chemical Contaminants, syntheticand volatile organ,c chemicals are byproductsof industrial processes and petroleumproduction, and also from gas stations, urbanstorm-water runoff, and septic systems.

Radioactive Contaminants, Naturallyoccurring or the result of oil and gasproduction and mining activities.

Drinking water and bottled water maycontain at least small amounts of somecontaminants. The presence ofcontaminants does not necessarily indicatethat water poses a health risk, Moreinformation about contaminants and poten_tial health effects can be obtained bycalling the Environmental protection Agency'sSafe Drinking Water Hofline (800-426-479j-).

.#/sr?i'Elevated levels of lead can cause serioushealth problems, especially for pregnantwomen and young children. Lead indrinking water is primarily from materialsand components associated with servicelines and home plumbing. Laidlaw WaterDistrict is responsible for providing highquality drinking water to your tap, wecannot control the variety of materials usedin plumbing components in Vour home,When your water has been sitting forseveral hours, you can minimize thepotential for lead exposure by flushing yourtap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes beforeusing water to drink or cooklng. lf you areconcerned about lead in your water, yollmay wish to have your water tested.lnformation on lead in drinking water, testing methods, and steps you can take tominimize exposure is available from theSafe Drinking Water Hotline or at http:/iwww.epa.govlsafewater/lead, orwww.leadline.org, or lly contacting EdgeAnalytical, drinking water testing laboratory541_-639-8425.

You can see our most recent test results in the data talrle below. We are required to repon only those substances that were present atdetectable levels. We are allowed to monitor for some contaminants less than once per year, therefore some of the data can be more thanone year old.

. AL - Action Level, the concentration of arequirements.

contaminant which if exceeded, triggers treatment or other

. EPA- Environmental protectionrequirements for water utilities.

Agency, sets water quality standards and establishes methods and monitoring

' McL - Maximum contaminant Level, the highest level of a contaminant that is allowed in drinking water. MCL,sare set as close to the MCLG's as feasible using the best available treatment technology.r MCLG - Maximum Contaminant Level Goal, the level of a contaminant in drinking water which there is no knownor expected risk to health. MCLG's allow a margin of safety.r PPB - Parts Per Billion. the equivarent of one second in 32 years.o PPM - Parts Per Miilion, the equivarent of one second in 12 days.o pCi/l - Picocuries Per Liter, a measure of radioactivity.

o Result - the column that shows you what level of contaminant was found in the water you drink.r TT-TreatmentTechnique, a required process intended to reducethe levelof a contaminant ln drinkingwater.

An assessment of our water systemhas been completed by the Depart-ment of Human Services to deter-mine susceptibility to potentialsources of contamination. A copy ison file by contacting the office at541-.389.1255.

Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at leastsmall amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants does notnecessarily indicate that water poses a health risk. More information aboutcontaminants and potential health effects can be obtained by calling the EnvironmentalProtection Agency's safe drinking water hotline at 1-g00-426 -47g1-.
