HIS Analysis

EHR system “FutureHealth” designed specifically for chiropractic Patient notes are highly detailed and include: treatment(s)

received, specific area of treatment on the body, progress towards health objectives, patient opinion on reaching health goals

Patients must be re-evaluated periodically: range of motion and orthopedic tests must be completed and annotated

Complete lack of interoperability, sometimes leads to redundant paperwork

Meaningful Use Status

Chiropractic office are currently not being held to the same standards as many other healthcare organizations

Therefore, very little effort has been made to establish “meaningful use”

Currently CCP remains in Stage I

Quality & Safety Systems

Each patient receives an individualized treatment plan, therefore quality and safety is ensure through adherence to strict procedure and guidelines that exist for each type of therapy and treatment service within the office

Detailed logs are kept for each treatment service Safety procedures exist for an “emergency stop” for every type

of service if the patient experiences any pain or discomfort Chiropractic physicians are responsible for overseeing the actions

of all other members of the team

Management of Adverse Events

To prevent adverse events that can sometimes happen with manual chiropractic adjustments, the doctors only use an electronic adjustment system called the ProAdjuster

If a patient has an adverse reaction to a therapeutic treatment, the patient’s treatment plan is immediately revised

Biblical Perspective

The current era of health care reform can cause much concern and uncertainty as healthcare organizations undergo massive changes in operations. However, as Christians, we are reminded to have faith as God’s plan unfolds.

Philippians 4:6-7: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18: Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen in eternal.

Conclusion

The healthcare industry as a whole has undergone significant changes in the past several years, primarily as a result of the implications of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act [PPACA] enacted in 2009. However, the chiropractic industry has largely remained unchanged. The ACA did not specifically provide any implications for chiropractors; it can be assumed that this is due the general view of chiropractic care as a medical “alternative.”

As a result, the systems in place at Carolina Chiropractic Plus have also remained largely unchanged over the past several years.
