ADDITIONAL RELATED EXPERIENCE LAUSD E-RATE PROGRAM (Electrical, Mechanical & Structural Engineering Project Management and Design)
Trinity Systems has been responsible for conducting electrical evaluations, and project
management for all new network equipment associated with the E-RATE program for
400 schools. In addition, structural details were designed for mounting the LAN cabinets
according to industry standards and LAUSD special requirements. Electrical
evaluations were also conducted at numerous schools to provide proper instructions to
contractors for mounting of communication and electrical conduits through existing
buildings and structures. This project required coordination with District personnel, site
investigations, survey of existing conditions, evaluation, reporting, and preparation of
construction drawings. Recommendations were provided to District authorized
representatives as required.
The dollar value of the program was $175M. The dollar value for TSI’ participation was
$550,000.00 and the duration of this project was 1 year. A very fast tract project
completed within schedule, and budget.
“Engineering The Future” 21
LAUSD SAFETY & TECHNOLOGY AND FIRE ALARM PROGRAM (Safety and Technology/Fire Alarm Programs)
As part of the Facilities Technology Program Management Group (FTPMG), Trinity
Systems provided construction management support, constructability and QA/QC
technical reviews, and program management technical support for over 400 Safety and
Technology projects, and over 300 Fire alarm system projects for a total construction
program budget of $4.5 billion. Our functions included but were not limited to standard
construction services, review and plan check of proposed designs prepared by pre-
selected consulting engineering firms to ensure compliance with LAUSD design
guidelines, specifications, applicable codes and standards.
TSI provided technical leadership and served as liaison between FTPMG, local regions
OAR, engineers and architects, contractors, and DSA inspectors; TSI reviewed and
answered requests for information/clarifications, reviewed and approved construction
cost estimates, enforced standard procedures for scope and plan changes during
construction, and provided construction technical support.
The dollar value for TSI’ participation was $2,656,786.00. Trinity Systems staff
consisted of (6) Engineers and (1) project manager. The duration of the services
extended for approximately 6 years; TSI engagement was completed on June 2009.
Constructability reviews were performed to determine if the proposed designs were
making adequate usage of available infrastructure and existing conditions. Value
engineering and cost saving measures were implemented to provide the District with
proposed constructible systems that would meet not only quality standards, but would
be built within estimated budgets as well. In the execution of contract responsibilities,
TSI’ construction and project management team helped the District by eliminating
design deficiencies, code issues, constructability problems, and elimination of over and
under designs. These changes resulted in saving to the program in the proximity of
$300 million dollars.
In addition, Trinity Systems has been responsible for the design
and construction technical support for numerous Safety and Technology projects which
required the existing electrical service to be upgraded. Coordination with the utility
company (SCE) was critical to install the new electrical service.
“Engineering The Future” 22
LAUSD PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS PROGRAM (PV Systems assessment Program)
Trinity Systems provided Engineering and Project management services for the
renewable energy/ PV systems assessments.
Our responsibilities included but were not limited to field investigations to determine
existing infrastructure and environmental constraints, coordination and evaluation with
school administrators and construction management personnel in the assessment of
existing conditions to determine requirements for upgrades, and/or modifications of
existing roof conditions to determine suitability to meet the new photovoltaic system
needs.
A detailed evaluation of existing conditions was a prominent element
This project included the following set of deliverables:
in the execution of
these projects. Site investigations included technical support and technical leadership,
reviewing materials submittals to ensure compliance with LAUSD standards and
specifications, assisting in providing reports, and addressing construction problems that
arouse from unforeseen conditions.
1. Equipment and wiring location approval from schools administrators.
2. Project Management and Technical support during assessment.
3. Structural integrity of roof and sub-structure evaluation.
4. Installation and construction recommendations.
5. Comparative estimated energy output for each system proposed.
6. Recommended options for commercial solar PV arrays suitable for the site.
7. Roof equipment maintenance and repair access.
8. HVAC recommendations as required to areas where equipment is to be installed
when space for inverters is available inside existing structures.
