Lee Dervan and Mark Richardson,fabrication technicians at SimpsonThomson Filtration (STF) whichmanufactures Niplast Tanks,successfully completed the assessmentfollowing a two-day hot gas andextrusion welding qualificationprogramme to BS EN 13067, forwelding polypropylene andpolyethylene. The team’s acknowledgedskills in welding thermoplastic sheetand pipe offer customers guaranteedquality assurance and furtherconfidence in the manufacture ofNiplast Storage Tanks.

During discussion with TWI, STFidentified the delivery of hot gas andextrusion welding, and butt fusionand socket fusion as areas for skillconsolidation and recognition.  STFalso saw a benefit in qualifying all oftheir skilled fabrication techniciansto BS EN 13067 ‘Approval Testing ofPlastic Welders’, which could offer alever into new market opportunitieswhere welding certification isrequired.Tel: 0161 477 6777
