The technical textiles sector has been a growth market for severalyears and includes many niche segments related to individualapplications. Every day sees the constant emergence of new groupsof products thanks to tailor-made fibres, new processingtechnologies and ultra-modern textile machinery. Because of theincreasing importance of technical textiles, there is now a huge needfor technology, quality and precision in the production of fibres, yarns, knits, wovens and non wovens as a first stage in the textilemanufacturing process. The development of new high-tech fibres andthe need to process them with care require all sorts of things fromflexible restructuring of the production process to user-friendlyworking procedures. This places high demands of creativity andinnovation on researchers, designers and indeed engineers.
