The HiSet exam will measure your

knowledge in five core areas:

Language Arts–Reading

65 mins.

40 multi-choice questions Language Arts–Writing

75 mins.– Part1

51 multi-choice questions

45 mins.-Part 2 (Essay)

Mathematics

90 mins.

50 multi-choice questions

Science

80 mins.

50 multi-choice questions

Social Studies

70 mins.

50 multi-choice questions

The GED test will no longer be used

for Missouri high school equivalency

certification. Beginning January 2014,

Missouri's new test will be the Educa-

tional Testing Service (ETS) High

School Equivalency Test (HiSET).

This new test is now aligned with

Missouri’s Common Core State

Standards and is designed to focus on

college and career readiness. HiSet

will be available as a computer-based

test with testing taking place at state-

approved test sites. Testing will not

be available on the Internet. An in-

crease in cost from $40.00 to $95.00

is expected.

University City AEL Program

HiSET preparation classes are offered

at the University City Adult Education

& Literacy Program. Our classes pre-

pare adult learners to take the com-

puter-based HiSET exam and we

also provide academic instruction to

improve basic skills in math, reading

and/or writing.

Who is eligible for these free classes:

those at least 17 years of age (or

16 years of age with 16 credits);

those not currently enrolled in a

secondary school;

those lacking sufficient mastery of

basic education skills;

those not having a high-school

diploma or GED certificate.
