• A navigational tool for the University that:
• REFLECTS the mission
• PROJECTS the vision
• ESTABLISHES priorities
WHY DO STRATEGIC PLANNING?
• Provide us with a sense of direction and focus
• Is oriented towards the future and focuses on the anticipated future
• Is a qualitative, idea driven process
• When successful, it influences all areas of operation

• Monitor pulse of the division with an emphasis on strategic priorities and emerging issues
• Guide and support the construction and progress of goals and action plans within the division
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE AVP IN STRATEGIC PLANNING?
• Facilitate connection between budget and strategic priorities—monitor progress based on priorities
• Collaborate across campus to help identify larger issues and share ideas
HOW CAN YOU CONTRIBUTE TO STRATEGIC PLANNING EFFORT?
• View the strategic plan as “our” plan
• Take advantage of opportunities to contribute ideas and suggestions in support of the strategic plan
• Strategic planning is both a top down and bottom up process.
